Guest guest
Are you taking the shoes off every night for an hour, or are you leaving them on all the time? It sounds like you are leaving them on all the time, so I was curious. If you aren't taking them off for an hour every day, that may be the problem. He's just not used to that break. We have been giving our son and bath every night since he got the shoes off. I know not everyone does this, and there really isn't a right or wrong way, but our son LOVES the water so not giving him a bath is almost like punishing him. We incorporated the bath into the bedtime routine, and now we rarely have problems getting him to bed, or in the shoes. He just knows the routine. Plus, the bath helps get rid of that nasty foot smell! That said, if you don't want to do a nightly bath, definitely take the shoes off for that hour and use some witch hazel to wipe down his feet. It knocks the stink out, and helps to dry out and toughen the skin. > Jayson (little over 2 months / left club foot) got his DBB/Markells > exactly one week ago. Guest guest
Bj! I really feel for you... this is the hardest part of the whole treatment I think - getting into the FAB and getting settled can be hard. I wonder if maybe his feet aren't all the way corrected? The brace won't be comfortable for him if they aren't. That may also explain the foot slipping. Are you seeing a certified Ponseti doc? This happened to Livi - her foot was slipping out of the shoes from day one. If we tied it tight enough (painfully tight) she would cry because they were on too tight. But we couldn't keep her feet in unless we did. Call your orthotics department - sometimes they can add plastizode inserts to help them fit better. If that does not work, I would go back to your doctor and see what he suggests. Good luck and hang in there! It will not always be this hard. Guest guest
BJ, My son was also not so happy after bath when I went to put his shoes back on. I think maybe the cleaning of his feet made them a little extra sensitive again. I think is was the first few times we bathed him that he was that way. As time goes on the feet sensitivity goes away and so did the fussing. Good luck, hang in there.
