Guest guest
Well hello everyone. I am new here go easy on me. :-) Not really I have read some postings and this is a very informative group. You all talk about everything. Gives me a good idea of what I am up against in it's entirity. Right now I am looking for a doctor that will not give me a hard time. I jsut got Kaiser coverage. So right now I do not have a primary doctor. I tried to Get Jane Feeney but she is not excepting new patients. Does anyone know of any good doctors to get I guess the intial okay for the surgery from? I had a friend who was well deserving of the surgery and her first doctor told her to go on a diet. I mean if it were that simple it'd be that simple. but clearly it's not. So anyway, I want to avoid those type of problems. If anyone can help I would certainly appreciate it. I'm looking for a doctor in the Soutbay are. I am located in Los Angeles, Ca. Thanks a lot!
Guest guest
Dear DeSonna: Hi~! Welcome to the group! I'm in Sacramento, so as far as helping you pick your Primary Doctor, I can't be of any help. But let me say, up here in Sacramento, Pointe West Facility, Dr. A. Mahmood is very supportive of this surgery. I would keep asking around and you'll find some help, I'm sure. Ya, "Go On A Diet", like we all haven't heard that one before. "Diets" are good for a few lbs. but when "Life" starts happening, we need help~!!! I haven't had the surgery yet, I am struggling trying to "get rid of" the -20 lbs. goal that they set for me...I am not doing too well... but I hope to get back into the groove soon! Anyway, good luck and hopefully you'll get your referral soon! Love, Jenn P.S. For me, this has been a struggle because I already have the great hubby, all the kids I am ever going to have (40 years old, severely obese & diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol & severe lower back pain) the only person I HAVE to do this for is myself. Psychologically speaking, I am having a difficult time with it all...I am in therapy....it's a slow process... desonna wrote: Well hello everyone. Guest guest
Dear De Sonna, Lucky, lucky you! It just so happens we (you and I) have a neighbor.... is in Long Beach and I am in Palmdale! had her surgery at the Kaiser out your way...Mid City I think???? I " should " be having surgery on January 3rd at UCLA. (drama, too much drama...just cross your fingers for me and don't ask!!!!) I know nothing about doctors out your way, but you have definatly found the sweetest and most caring weight support group ever!!!! Most of them are way up north! Near San Fransisco and like that....but they accepted me....out of towner that I am....and I will be forever grateful! I don't think any one doctor can help more than another.... once accepted, Kaiser has many hoops to crawl through. Just know it's for your health and so you will be amazed at how much you learn about yourself, past, present and future. There is a healthy living (?) class that takes 6 months, tests and more tests, be patient! Get a notebook and take concise notes, who you saw and when....learn to collect lab results, phone numbers and class handouts. UCLA also requires a month long set of classes...one a week for a month, and they test you to see if you paid attention, for real! If you don't pass the test, you take the class again. By the time surgery comes around, you are well educated! You learn about nutrition, the surgery, vitamins, you learn a lot!!!! This is not an easy fix, but persistance pays off when good health is yours! My sweet husband, had surgery in August, he has lost 90+ pounds, eight inches in pants size, three shirt sizes, 24 pills daily and insulin forever!!!! He is never " hungry " , enjoys everything in moderation, feels fantastic! And most importantly will stand a great chance of not dying young!!!! (and if he does, it was not from obesity)....Good luck! Any doctor is as good as another, if it's not the right one for you, move on and find another! Best of luck! Guest guest
One more thing...Kaiser does require that you diet, or attempt to for a certain period of time with documentation, Weight Watchers, Atkins, something, and keep records of how well they worked. This is not, and should never be a first choice, it should be a last resort. You will have to lose ten percent of your current weight so don't start yet, wait untill your first approval visit with the doctor. Then you get weighrd every week untill you are ready. I say this so you don't go ballistic when you hear it from Kaiser. Good Luck!!!! Sue > > Dear De Sonna, > Lucky, lucky you!
