Rose,

Yeah, the world of quilting has been substantially changed by computers as well. It has enabled quilters to take an old medium,kicking-ass, into the present and beyond. I actually am going to make as a wedding present to a young woman I know, a quilt from her mother's old dresses. Her mother passed away when she was very young and I am honored to make this for her. I would also like to include photos and other bits of her life story into it.

I think anything that people create with their hearts and imagination can be a beautiful work of art, a work of heart.

As a person with sarc effecting my eyes, one of my first real fears about this disease was becoming blind. Uveitis is one of the leading causes of blindness. I worried that my ability to make quilts, or any other craft would be compromised. However, I soon realized that I would quilt, even if I couldn't see. I would have someone arrange my fabrics by color. I know color intimately. I would, God granting me ability, continue in some capacity. Bonnie B

I'm not a seamstress. I am the kid who put the sleeve where the zipper belonged, and the zipper where the sleeve went. Needless to say, home-ec was a D grade. But hey, give me a lawnmower, and I was happy. Better yet, give me a baseball glove and bat-- and it was hog-heaven!

Actually I played Womens Fast pitch softball from the time I was 12 until I turned 25. I was one league short of Womens' Professional Softball, but back in the dark ages-- that didn't say a whole lot. I can still lay a bunt down better than the rest-- and it's still good! Just don't ask me to run the bases. LOL!

Now, about quilts-- when Torey was about 5 (he's almost 25)-- I took his knitted and crocheted baby blankets along with a baby quilt and had them sewn together, so they make a comforter. He could care less (he's a guy) but I'm sure they will be loved by someone later down the line.

Hmm, can you knit with a baseball bat???

Hi guys, I was always lousy at sewing and Home Ec. too in school. I still can't sew well today. My mother actually gave me an ovation a couple of weeks ago for actually hemming a pair of pants! lol (I hadn't done it in years.) Hey, we take the applause where we can get it, right? Mine is usually when I finally clean out the kitty boxes. Of course, it's the cats giving me the standing ovation!

That reminded me of one of my favorite entries in Anne Lamott's book, "Operating Instructions, a Journal of my Son's First Year." She had a fussy baby & felt overwhelmed as a mother much of the time. This entry is when Sam was about 3 months old. Anne says, " We had a great time today. He slept a lot, laughed a lot, played, roared. Later we had a Hoagy Carmichael dance contest, and we won---we won big. It was just Sam, the kitty, and me, but still, we felt good about it."

That's what I look for--humor, joy, satisfaction in the little things. And most days, it's enough.

Ramblin' RoseModerator A merry heart is good medicine. Proverbs 17:22

"How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving, and tolerant of the weak and the strong. Because someday in life you will have been all of these."

LOL! I do understand, and isn't it wonderful that there is a knitch in life for all of us- even with our quirks.

Hugs,

LOL! It is all about perspective-- no matter what happens in life!! This is great, and ya know, those "cat dances" with the critters are what can turn a gloomy day into sunshine!!
