Hi,

My daughter used Zelnorm for over 9 months. She is eight years old,

and diagnosed with complex one by fresh muscle biopsy in Atlanta.

She originally saw DiLorenzo in Pittsburgh, PA who recommended the

trial of Zelnorm. But we were eventually referred to Dr. in

Boston. She has seen him for over two years now.

She has upper and lower motility issues. Most of her problems are

autonomic and GI including psuedo-obstruction. Her colon has no

motility which resulted in a cecostomy (mickey into cecum to irrigate

her bowel) Dr. recommended and did her cecostomy, we travel

eight hours to see him every three months. Needless to say, we think

he is the best.

Would be happy to discuss this directly with you. You can email me

at jimnjudyweeks@...

Take care,

Judy

Boston is recommending that our local GI doc prescribe Zelnorm

(tegaserod) to get Asher's bowels functioning again.... it's either

that or continue with suppositories every 2-3 days or even a c-tube

(a tube that goes into the cecum that he can flush out the poop with -

yuck)....

I'm so worried that he'll get tons of diarrhea... he's potty trained

for pee but I have no clue about bowel movements for him b/c he

hasn't had one on his own in over a year. He goes to preschool and I

hate to see him have an accident....

We use Urecholine ( Bethanechol). It is an old med- and very safe.

Anne-

My Ped's GI at Cleveland Clinic put me on Zelnorm and Miralax. I've not had any success with either. I would reccomend starting out with a small dose and see how Asher tolerates it. I went up to 12mg twice a day and still wasn't having BM's. It would be worth a try as many have great success with this drug.
