Guest guest
I am getting really concerned and have a few questions for the longer term post ops. I had my DS on Feb 27th so I am about 21 weeks post op. My starting weight the morning of surgery was 245 lbs, I am currently at 184 lbs. In the last month I have only lost 1 lb, I am frieking out of course. Is this normal? My goal is to get to 125 lbs, is this possible, and if so what can I do to help myself get there? Do we lose weight for the entire 18 months or do some people stop at an earlier point like maybe 12 months? I have heard that this 18 month period is the time they refer to as "the window" Does this mean that whatever weight we lose during this time we will not regain? Guest guest
Renae, Unless you are very short it is probably unrealistic to expect to drop to 125 lbs. You should expect to loose about 70% of your Excess weight. This means (in your case) that stastistically you will keep about 30 lbs excess weight. There is some variation in that. You might get down to 125 lbs, but don't count on it. Plateau's are a constant point of discussion on this list. I have read so many people complaining about that. Most people plateau for now and then for as long as 6 weeks, but then they suddenly drop a bunch of weight. Most of the weight loss occurs in the first 12 months, but it is different for different people. You also play a role in how much weight loss you get. If you avoid sugar and excercise regularly then you chances of reaching 125 lbs are much increased. My father-in-law drinks so much Pepsi that my Niece said she wanted to fill his pool with Pepsi so that he wouldn't have to go out to the store. Even after a distal RNY he remains about 80 lbs overweight. Hull
Guest guest
Renae I'm not a post op, but Ive heard some varying expressions re: the plateuas. You're only 21 weeks out and it's way too soon to stop losing all together. What you're probalby going through is the body shifting gears, it just lost a bunch of wt. and is rearranging. You may not be losing wt. but you could be losing inches--parts of your body have to move and function different when wt comes off. Some have suggsted to totally halt the carbs and go high fat and protein and this gets your body in the losing mode again. More than likely it will do that itself in the next couple weeks. Guest guest
I was told by both DS Dr.'s I saw that you should lose about 85% of excess weight with the DS. Guest guest
Donna, 85% sounds optimistic. The best published results show an average of 80% loss. Other reports are in the 70-80% range. Anything is possible, and those last few pounds are really up to you. Hull > > Renae, > > > > Unless you are very short it is probably unrealistic to expect to > > drop to 125 lbs.
