I was just looking something up on the March of Dimes website and came

across their section related to clubfoot treatment. They did not

mention the Ponseti method at all......in fact they were talking about

casting for 6-12 mos. or something. I would like to write to them or

send them updated info but am in the middle of my husband getting out

of the army and moving. So, maybe someone else would have time to do

it? Just thought I would throw that out there. I know alot of people

go to that website. I think that is one reason so many choose surgery

for their child (in cases where it is not necessary) is because so many

websites still fail to mention other options. Boothe

,

Over the past 5 years or so this has come up a number of times that

the March of Dimes is not displaying current information on treatment

alternatives. A number of parents have tried in the past by calling

and/or writing them to encourage them to include a simple description

that if you used the Ponseti method, that it is very unlikely that the

surgery would be needed.

They do list a paper by Dr. Posneti which shows that whoever wrote

their article is aware of the Ponseti method, just not put it into

plain english in their " Fact " sheet.

I have written 2 letters and made couple

of phone calls to the National and Local offices of the March of

Dimes. I have sent them information, backup from studies, etc. just

asking them to include information about the Ponseti method in

addition to the surgical route so that any parents reading their web

site would be able to know the Ponseti method existed. At that time,

they weren't really very receptive to the idea. Hopefully they may be

more responsive now.

My ex-boss actually works for the March of Dimes and is a head writer for them.

I'll mention it to her next time we speak and I'll see if there is anything she

can do.
