Lilka:

You make a really good point here. When we are ready, we can do

this. And it is really important to be able to say good-bye to the

way of eating that got us morbidly obese in the first place.

I remember when I said good-bye to vanilla soft serve ice cream (a

particular treat at a favorite Dairy Queen). I mindfully ate the

whole thing, and then said good-bye. " I thought you were my friend,

but now I know I have to say good-bye because we're not good for each

other. "

Food is not love. Food is not happiness. Food is just food.

The " joy " I used to get from my favorite foods doesn't not compare to

the JOY I now get from being healthy and free.

Just yesterday, I was late for my bus, so I ran down the street to

catch it. I got on the bus, and I WAS NOT out of breath, and I was

not sweating. The next stop, a morbidly obese person was in the

situation. He was sweating profusely after he got on the bus, and he

looked like he was going to have a heart attack.

He looked all too familiar. It was like looking in the mirror of 3

years ago.

I whispered a little prayer of thanks to God and a prayer that he

find the way out of his prison.

Each of us needs to find our way out. Thank God I had the help of

Kaiser to point me in the right direction.

Lilka Good for you, 5 days I'm so happy for you. I was a high risk also and I'm so thankful now. Take care sweetie. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers every day and through your surgery, then I will welcome you to the other side. DonnaLilka wrote: Hi. I was in some pain but the basic reason for this surgery is neuropathy. We don't want to lose our toes, feet, legs, and end up in a wheelchiar with our husbands or some expensive caregiver wheeeling us around (unless we have to). I can not bear the idea. though my age is a deterrant and a high risk, I decided that neuropathy was worse than the risk. So I dug in. I never thought I could let go of the food. It took be many months of eating those things I love best, sugar stuff, mostly, but planning the day I would let it go. I would eat until I lost interest and then when the final day came, (orientation) I post poned it for another week just to slide in the last of it. Then, and only then, was i able to let it go. I have not slipped on those things to this day, 5 days before the operation. When I have any doubts, I just think "Neuropathy!!!" and I am back on track. Lilka Donna JordonDSJordon@...
