Guest guest
Thanks to everyone who has commented. Thanks for your information, Tina. As far as work and disability insurance - I don't even think they offer it. I think all they offer is medical insurance, thru an organization that small businesses can join here in Cleveland, which gives its members the buying power of a big company. I don't think they opted for anything but the medical. So, the disability insurance I was talking about would be bought privately by me, has nothing to do with my company. I have asked the person I talked to about this and she said if something happens where I am under doctor's care a day after I buy it, I will be covered. But I guess I have to wait and see the exact wording of the policy. At any rate, as far as the hr person (who is the boss' wife) knowing about what I am doing because of disability insurance - that won't happen, as they don't offer it. I am thinking that the medical insurance should also not be sharing the exact reason for my surgery due to privacy issues and possibility of getting sued. To get time off work, did you have a letter from you surgeon stating the necessity for surgery? (without saying what surgery)? Guest guest
>The reason I brought up disabilty insurance is that here in NY it is required that employers pay for disability insurance. The premiums are paid directly to the state. As employees we are also forced to apy into this insurance plan. Now the money is not very much it ended up being about a 1/4 of my normal salary. But I have been paying for this insurance for 13 years so I took it. I did not get a letter from my surgeon prior to having surgery. However, I work for a large company that believes in CYA. My company has a policy that anyone returning from disability must submit a letter from their doctor stating that it is ok for them to return to work. That letter doesn't contain anything about wls. However my company sends a follow-up questionare to the doctor to make sure that they know what the limitations and special instructions are. Stupid things like if you are only supposed to lift a certain amount of weight and if you can handle a standing job. This covers their backside and is supposed to make sure that employees do not re-injure themselves by doing too much. I have not seen this form so I do not know if it says requires the doctor to fill in the type of surgery or the diagnosis. > As far as work and disability insurance - I don't even think they offer it.
