Guest guest
It sounds like what you hate more than anything is the perky, happy, bubbly emotional state lots of people get around this time of year. Unfortunately most people do not really understand or celebrate Christmas the way it was really intended to be, with Christ at the center. Santa Claus (although I am not against him or what he represents and allow the kids to watch him on TV and etc.), was introduced long after Christmas began and has taken the spotlight in most arenas. Then you have so many people who love the party atmosphere/scene and so Christmas to them means lots of partying and drinking with buddies and family. New Year's Eve is big in that area too. Often, with people like those here in the group, we just can't get into that party feeling, the feeling that often is only temporary for them, but can suffocate those around living with a terminal illness or ailments that plague every day life. Christmas tends to be one of the hardest seasons for people dealing with many different issues, whether health or not and often the suicide rate goes much higher around this time of year. Missing loved ones, the financial issues, the illnesses, even the weather " blaaaness, " often cold, dark, and dreary, can cause for depression. For me, it can be a sad time also at times as people tend to reflect over the year and there are often so many sad things to remember and it can be scary to look forward to the year to come, but because of my understanding of what Christmas really represents (the birth of Jesus; God in the flesh- so He could take the sins of the world upon Himself so we can have a relationship with him; you see, due to sin issues that we all have, we have been separated from God as He can not be in the presence of sin, yet due to Christ's death on the cross, we are able to approach God as clean and holy, sinless when we have repented of our sins and committed to live our lives for and with Him), I see the amazing sacrificial love of God to give his own son as a sacrifice so we might live. This was the reason we began to celebrate both Christmas and Easter. I love the family gatherings, even though somewhat sad at times, and the presents, sharing with others, and seeing the children's eyes light up, but most important in our home is to try to emphasize the gift God gave us, and thus even though melancholy at times, I also am grateful for Christmas and " try " to remain in good spirits. Hope this wasn't too long and you understand what I am trying to portray. I hope you are able to uncurl from that couch sometime soon, but there are definitely times we all need to do it. I get away in the " Calgon take me away fashion " with a hot bubble bath. Guest guest
Sure it is possible! At time I detest what society has turned Christmas into. . . the gimme gimme, the rushing, the rude cashier/customer etc, but I always love Christ. Christmas, vs. the Christmas SEASON, in my mind, are seperate. Guest guest
That was so well said and so true. I try so hard to help myself not feel so sad around Christmas by focusing on the fact that without the birth of Christ, we would have no hope. Because he was born and died, we shall live again , whole and perfect and I try to remember that is exactly how my sweet Samya is, whole, perfect and in heaven with jesus and that is what Christmas becomes to me. Guest guest
Hi Kim, I am sorry that you are going through this tough time. Holidays can be more difficult when you are going through trials, especially when your children are struggling with something like this. I had a hard time the day after Christmas this year, I miss my parents so very much. I am only in my thirties and my friends all went to their parents homes for Christmas, many still visit with their grandparents. I just wanted so much to see and hear them again. My mom passed away from a neuromuscular disorder, we believe now it was probably mito, and our son is having a difficult time with mito right now. Just remember that Christmas joy does not happen from our own hand, but from the hand of God, and emotions are temporary but His gift is permanent, lasting and unconditional. Yes, you can feel sadness and love Christ- because love is a decision. Take care, Joni- -- In Mito , " kim " <kjoliver@g...> wrote: > > is it possible to HATE CHRISTMAS AND STILL LOVE CHRIST? as right now > i just want to curl up and forget about life but i know i cannot as > it keeps intruding into my corner of the world. i would like to put > up such as a sign 'ON'T COME IN.
