Guest guest
Hi everybody, Just wanted to post this because I have written to several of you in the past year or so trying to locate a copy of a poem I wrote about Dr. Ponseti at the time the parents had the appreciation banquet for him. I lost the poem in a computer crash and, since nobody else seemed to have it, I thought it was gone forever. (It may be in the scrapbook that was put together for Dr. Ponseti, but I didn't want to bother him about it.) Happily, I just found it in an old backup, included in an e-mail sent to me by Tina Byrd. (Tina, if you're out there, Bless You!) Anyway, after asking so many of you if you had the poem, I thought I'd go ahead and paste it in here. For any parents new to the Ponseti method, this will give you an idea of what the rest of us think of him, and of the other doctors who have taken the time to learn the Ponseti method and help our children... Dr. Ponseti's Hands Our baby's foot he takes in hand, And our hearts he holds there, too... With the crooked little clubfoot, that couldn't go into a shoe. With patience and love unmatched, And hands skilled by the years, He stretches ligaments, moves bones, and wipes away the tears. His hands gently mold the plaster, and A miracle -- the baby sleeps! The changes he makes now are for a lifetime, for keeps. Finished, sending us home with the bar, " Don't worry. It will be fine. " His hands have worked their magic; the rest is up to time. And in the end, we'll see Beautiful footprints in the sand, And our children will walk painlessly Because of Dr. Ponseti's hands. -- Pamela Karydas, Sept. 2000
