Guest guest
Yes it's my understanding that the French Method is very extensive and time consuming with less than satisfying results many times. I'd avoid it, myself. If this is the method your doctor is prescribing, you'd do well to research the whole thing as it compares to other methods. I would say that regardless of what birth defect or illness your doctor is prescribing a treatment for, not just this one - as parents we have to be our child's advocate and realistically we have more time/opportunity/motivation to educate our selves to alternative methods that the dr. might not be aware of. His knowledge of the Ponseti Method (for example) might be very limited, therefore his opinions of it might be jaded. You as the parent can find out more - and whatever you decide, make it your decision, not your doctor's decision, that's all I'm trying to say. best of luck, s,. Guest guest
yes, talk about tedious and time consuming... doesn't that method only have a 50% success rate or am I wrong? I looked into it way back when and quite honestly... if I can't imagine doing the stretches Dr. Dobbs prescribes daily how would I be able to take a baby to PT every day for a year? No, I don't think so. Ponseti Method all the way for me. Guest guest
I found this explanation of the French method online: 2) French technique, consists of daily visits with the physical therapist. Gentle, painless stretching of the foot is performed. The foot is then taped to maintain the improved position and is held this way until just before the next day's visit. At night, the taped foot is placed into a continuous passive motion machine at home in order to maximize the amount of stretching. This is tolerated well by the infants. The tape is removed for two hours each day to allow for bathing, airing of the skin, and home exercises. Removable aquaplast splints are also used to reinforce the taped position. The one-hour physical therapy sessions are conducted five days each week for as long as three months (in very stiff feet). Taping is discontinued when the child starts to walk. Hope this helps, Jenni --- dee15mom@... wrote: > In a message dated 10/9/2005 9:20:58 AM Pacific > Standard Time, > number23@... writes: > > > > > > He might be referring to the French Method. > Which is ? > > > DeeDee > California > > > [Non-text portions of this message have been > removed] > > Jenni- Mom to (10/31/01) and Kelsey (11/7/03)happy girl in DBB nights only for left clubfoot. __________________________________ Yahoo! Guest guest
That's good. Can we ask which Shriners? I just want to say (if I can with out sounding pushy) that its still best that you and she educate yourselves here because we're finding so many doctors who are claiming to use the method who really are not....they're modifying it and coming up with less than good results. .. Best of luck to you all, stick around and let us know how it goes, OK? s. ----- She is planning on going to Shriner's for the Ponseti method, but the OB mentioned this to her. Guest guest
Yes, I have actually seen him before with my daughter. He did surgery on her feet several years ago. I am taking her there tomorrow for the clinic, and if he is there, I am requesting to see him and ask about my grandbaby.
