Guest guest
I said I am really dismayed at the abuse of the privilege of having the card. Jackie, YOu are doing the same thing that so many people do to those that have the card. Now, granted, sometimes someone will be using Grannies card-- but most often not. I don't look at all like I should need one. Now that I'm not on oxygen 24/7-- you don't see any outward signs that I'm disabled. Yeah, I walk like my back is so stiff I'm in pain-- but other than that-- I LOOK FINE!! I had someone actually ask why I thought I should be able to use the placard-- and I had just finished with my Remicade infusion. I looked at them, said hey, if you want my illness, you can have my parking placard. The look that came back was brutal-- so I added, you know, I just finished a 3hr chemo infusion, and I'd love to puke on your shoes. Would that prove to you that I need the placard? They didn't know what to say-- and I went in and got my groceries and then home-- where I don't have to put up with those that don't have a clue. Not everyone looks sick-- and they may need the placard. Do read "But YOU DON'T LOOK SICK" IT'S A REAL LESSON ON LIFE. Guest guest
I too have a placard and am dismayed as to the number of people I see jump out of their autos and run into the place of business. I have watched people who are in need of this space have to park father away because the spots are being used by those who do not really need it. I use a wheel chair when shopping, going to appointments and all and I use parking that is not for the handicapped if I really don't need it. My family had asked to use my card and I have refused for the same reason. Even when a family member takes me someplace I try not to always use the card. As I said I am really dismayed at the abuse of the privilege of having the card. Has anyone else noticed this, or am I seeing things? Jackie [sPAM] Re:FW: question about handicap parking Marla, I agree with the rest of the group. I have had mine placard for four years and just had to get it renewed. I had to pay nothing and only had to get my doctors to fill out the form. My primary care doctor filled it out for me. It is very handy. I suggest you fill out one as soon as possible. I know how you feel when you are too tired to hardly even walk in the store more less walk several feet to the store. Guest guest
I use to see people utilizing the handicap spaces that were not handicapped. But, I do not see it happening much in the last year and I live in the suburbs of Milwaukee. Both in the suburbs and Milwaukee proper, . I think they have been cracking down here and ticketing people. I have also seen that they have added a lot more handicap spaces and they are usually not filled up when I go shopping at 5 pm when I get out of work which is a good thing. Guest guest
Jackie, I have seen those instances as well. I have a placard myself and have had it for years. Just to agree with others here, it is very easy to get as long as your dr. approves it . Mine cost nothing as well and is a removable one where I can use on any car I am in. I advise everyone with medical needs to get one. Guest guest
Jackie, yes, there are still folks who do that, whether out of ignorance or selfishness, I don't know. Yesterday a car with handicapped plates was parked so that it took up two handicapped spots, plus some of the extra space with the blue lines. That's really annoying, and they should know better. Back when I was healthy, I used to drive around parking lots (basically in nasty weather; otherwise, I often parked way out just for the exercise) looking for a close spot, thinking, "Why do they have so many handicapped spaces?" Now I drive around thinking, "Why don't they have more handicapped spaces?" Ramblin' RoseModerator A merry heart is good medicine. Guest guest
Do read "But YOU DON'T LOOK SICK" IT'S A REAL LESSON ON LIFE. Okay, are you trying to confuse me? Is this a different book, or did you mean "But YOU LOOK GOOD?" I'm not being a smart aleck; I know that stuff comes out all the time. Ramblin' RoseModerator A merry heart is good medicine.
