Dear Colleagues:

The NIOSH – National Occupational Research Agenda

(NORA) Sector Council for Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing has posted their

initial plan on the NIOSH website with a request for public comment prior to

June 30th. Please refer to http://www.cdc.gov/niosh/nora/comment/public/AgForFishDraftMar2008/

This NORA plan will chart the course for NIOSH, other

federal agencies, and the private sector for the next DECADE. The document was

constructed by a Council of 30 members representing many disciplines and

perspectives.

The key points for your review include: Goal 2 –

Vulnerable populations; Goal 3 – Outreach, Communications and

Partnerships; Goal 4 – Agriculture Safety; and Goal 5 – Agriculture

Health. This is YOUR OPPORTUNITY to have your perspective acknowledged

and integrated into a national plan. There is a simple process for submitting

your comments on-line and it is very important for the migrant research

community to share their opinion and voice on this one.

I am currently working on comments with particular attention

to pregnant farmworker women, women of child bearing age and children. I will

share these comments with you in the next few weeks.

Thanks for your attention to this important document.
