Hi!

Saw the post that suggested that everyone eats an "Atkins" type diet post op. This certainly was true during the first few months when my capacity was very limited and I was concerned about hair loss and protein deprivation. However, in the nearly 4 years since surgery, I have returned to my primarily carbohydrate based diet of lots of potatoes, pasta, bread, candy, and really anything I want to eat. I do not eat large quantities of protein, and rarely have meat outside of small quantities in casseroles. In fact, meat, when in the form of steak or whole pieces of chicken, are rather difficult for me to digest. The main advantage of the DS has been the freedom from dieting and guilt about what I eat. I eat lots more than I ever did before surgery, and struggle to keep my weight UP. Weird is not the word for the total psychological switch. Still in love with my surgeon and would do this all again in a flash.

Do you supplement protein? How are your labs? Have you had any problems?

Thanks, Deborah!
