Guest guest
Hi everyone. Yesterday I went to a book store and found 100 books displayed on weight loss. I did not find any on bariatric bypass surgery there. Is there a book written that you have found helpful? Please give me that name. I enjoy reading. Maybe one of you will write one. I am interested in writing one on the sexual lives of people who have gone through this procedure. I am interested in what comes up about our bodies, our feelings, our shame, which we have sometimes projected onto our bodies, therapy that helped with our bodies and our sexuality, and our relationships, having to do with our bodies and our sexuality. I wonder if anyone has written such a book. I appreciate your honest contributions to this web site when it is on that topic. Thank you. Guest guest
Lilka, I'm a professional librarian, and believe me I've been looking for books on this for the last year. There just aren't that many that really give good information. Believe it or not the best one I've found is _Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies_, by Marina S. Kurian (ISBN 0764584472). It's available from Amazon if you can't find it in a store. Don't be put off by the " For Dummies " title, it's not implying anything about the reader. It's a clearly laid out book with a LOT of good information. It compares gastric bypass to the other major types of surgeries, it's very factual and accurate, and it's the best book I've found for explaining the process to those who aren't going through it. (This is the book I'm going to give my mother when I tell her about the surgery!) And unlike most of the other books out there, it's not based on the personal experiences of the author. That kind of book has it's place, but it's too subjective to be really reliable in my opinion. Give this one a try! Cathy C.
