The numbness in my left front thigh only occurs when I am walking. I wake up with numb fingers especially if I sleep with my arms resting above my shoulder level. I told my surgeon I thought these were side effects thyroid, restless leg syndrome or depression medications. For the most part, and oddly, my carpal tunnel went away once I started on synthroid (hypothyroidism). I thought the numbess on my thigh may be due to my stomach overlapping. He said other preops have mentioned numbness and I may want to see a neurologist? Have any of your had this same numbness and if so did it go away after you lost weight? I've never talked to my doctor about it though, mostly because I was pretty sure he was going to tell me it's cuz I'm so heavy that I'm cutting off circulation to those areas...I did mention it in my the forms I filled out for Dr. Rabkin. Guest guest Posted August 9, 2001 Report Share Posted August 9, 2001 The numbness in the hands and arm when sleeping is from nerve inpingement in your neck when sleeping. I have had sinces a whiplash injury 13 years ago. When it gets bad I have to go tho the chiropractor and will be better for a few weeks. THe numb leg I have also--this is from a lumber/sacral inpingement or sciatica. My chiro. siad to be glad it is numbness instead of pain-- because it can ba quite nasty, an adjustment can aleiviate this. Wt. loss will definately help it as well.
