Guest guest
Thanks, Lori. Okay, I figured the foor thing is probably b/c that's how he positions himself when he's in the FAB. Especially when he sleeps on his side--the left leg is bent and the right one is up in the air un-bent. As for the curvy sitting, I think that may be separate, but I just wanted to see if any other CF parents have noticed this, so that if it IS related to the FAB or whatever, I can kinda explain it. But it may be a spinal curvature issue. :-( As if we didn't have enough to worry about. It's so funny, because the clubfoot used to be the MAJOR thing I was always worried about and stressed about and now that's taken a backseat to all these other little things that have popped up since birth--tightness in two fingers on each hand, ptosis (droopy eyelid) on the left eye, torticollis (he tilts his head to the left), and now the way he sits. I try to just enjoy him and cherish this first year, but I always find myself looking at him and examining him, trying to figure out if these things are at all connected or individual problems or what! Thanks again! Lori and Elijah wrote: Our 16 month old, Elijah has always sat with one leg out and one leg under him. He's RCF and keeps the right foot out and the left under him. Guest guest
sits like this as well! He also has torticollis, and his developmental dr. seems to think that is what is causing him to sit this way. He also is really tight in his neck and back all around, so I don't know if your little guy is or not. Just wanted to let you know you aren't the only one. We have been working on this for 3 months in physical therapy. It has gotten slightly better as he has gained more control of his torso How old is your son and does he get physical therapy? 11/19/04 Re: Re: Curvy sitting and foot pointing straight Thanks, Lori. Guest guest
Oh, my, I can sooo totally relate, especially the last paragraph! I hate the way I'm always looking for things, and the way everyone else is. My dd has the droopy eyelid thing too, on her right eye. Though I don't know that it's been labeled as such (actually, I didn't know there was a label for it). We are also seeing a geneticist to see if there's an underlying condition, but she also has eyes that are slanted up on the ends, almost Asian looking, though we're not Asian, right cf, teratologic dislocated hips (dislocated from birth, not developmental), slow development, really long tapered fingers, so far none of these anomollies have added up to anything, but they're constantly looking for something. It's awful. I will say though, our little angel girl is precious and I am so thankful every day we have her. It's just a constant struggle to not be " looking " for something wrong. It's hard to focus on all the right things and how wonderful she is, but I would urge you to aim for that, because your little one is precious too. And we are fortunate to have them! Guest guest
OK this is veering off of feet but Kelsey has that little pucker at the top of her butt as well. As an infant, they did an ultrasound to rule out spina bifida because it also it also has a skin tag inside it which I guess can be an indicator. It turned out to be nothing but that is funny that another little one on here has it as well. Jenni --- Lori and Elijah wrote: > , > > Its funny that you mention the butt crack. When Rose was born, she had a sacral dimple (which can indicate spina bifida occulta-meaning closed spina bifida). The u/s she had ruled that out. Each doctor we saw, though, would check her feet and check her diaper area. I have to wonder if it's pretty common in clubfoot children. If so, it can be an indicator of spina bifida occulta. Usually, there are no problems associated with it, but on occasion there can be. > lol, she also asked if any of our extended family members had that > and before I could answer her with, " I have no idea. I'm glad it turned out to be nothing! My oldest had a sacral dimple, and it also turned out to be nothing. Guest guest
has a crooked crack too! He also has a dimple back there, but the MRI found nothing, so I guess it is just something more for us to think about. Guest guest
That's interesting, Alister has a dimple thing on his bum too. It usually is just there and doesn't mean anything. I think, though, that it might be more common with clubfoot because each doctor Rose saw checked her little bum as if they expected to see something. Guest guest
--- wrote: > I thought Spina Bifida & club foot are very related. Well, kinda. Our newest baby to arrive in September is supposed to have spina bifida and bilateral clubfeet. The clubfeet are part of the spina bifida. In Rose's case, there was no reason for the clubfoot other than it happened. According to the neonatologist and genetic counselor, this baby and Rose are entirely individual cases and not linked. Even with Rose's sacral dimple. I find it hard to believe there isn't some correlation, but hey, I'm no doctor. I think clubfoot can be very related to spina bifida, but I don't think spina bifida is very related to clubfoot if that makes much sense! We won't know the true severity until the baby is born, but at this point they are saying Lumbar 4 which usually means paralysis from the knees down. There are so many possible scenarios! When we first found out, it drove me positively nuts not knowing exactly what we were going to be dealing with, but now I have a peace about it and know it's in God's hands. I certainly don't mind you asking! I think it is very strange, and I have to wonder if there is some sort of link. I think when the doctor's don't have the answers themselves, they tell you there isn't a link or some sort of vague answer that basically means, " I really don't know " I am thinking that babies with clubfoot are checked on their backs because there is a form of sb called spina bifida occulta. Sbo means that it is closed, but there can sometimes be problems associated with it. I guess then, if there was a child with sbo the clubfeet would be caused by that rather than be idiopathic. I think the clubfoot serves as a marker for possible other defects, but it doesn't mean they are there. I hope I'm not talking in circles because I feel like I am!
