,

Just remember that the DS is totally different than the RNY....our quality

of life is so much better!

Many RNYers can not tolerate beef.....I love fillet mignons and prime rib

and could not visualize chewing a tiny piece of steak to death before

swallowing! I wanted to be able to eat normally just like anybody else and

as far as Im concerned the RNY would not have given me that.

Can you imagine not being able to drink liquids with your meals? Can you

imagine having to wait 30-45 minutes to drink something after a meal?

So do I. But, hamburgers, even doused with catsup to moisten them,

seem to hang in my stomach like a lump. Same for lamb-a bit heavy

unless I chew it up really well. But, chicken, steak, beef roasts,

meat loaf, meatballs, and ribs go down just great. Fresh salmon,

which we love to eat, was a challenge (like the lamb--heavy, and the

fat caused oil leaks) at first, but now I tolerate it quite well.

That's what's true for me; YMMV (your mileage may vary) and probably

will.

Right on. I tried it several times before my DS, and concluded that

I had made the right choice in rejecting the RnY.

For several weeks post-op, DS-ers are not supposed to eat with or

after meals, either, But, after the reduced stomach heals, things

get better. After 3 months, I can sip with and after meals, but

certainly not gulp.

Hmmmmm......my surgeon didnt say anything about that and if I was a bit

thirsty while eating I sipped water with no problem. I find that now,

though, I can keep right on eating without having to sip until later and

often do...

Ive had that happen too but I think it depends on how the burger is

cooked....if its too dry it would sit like a lump ....the meatloaf tends to

be a bit moist and easier to digest I think since its got eggs and other

things in it. Speaking of ribs!!!!!!

Baby back ribs with barbq sauce is heaven!

There are so many foods we can eat and enjoy that so many RNYers say they

either cant have or dont tolerate anymore. I also have a sneaking suspicion

(based on what another rnyer told me) some of them are sorry for the

choices they made and wished they could do it over again......
