Guest guest
Are you out of South San Francisco or Richmond?? Sounds like South San Francisco. After Orientation you will have Nutrition class. Then you are to lose your 10% or whatever the dr decides. You are to go to some of the Lifestyles classes which are on various topics. Then once you reach your goal weight, you meet with the department to get your surgery date and all the while maintaining. it's about 1 year seems for most for the process. Guest guest
It is South San Francisco. So, this pre-op stuff was not really pre- op test...darn and my hopes we high that it would only be a few more weeks. So, will they go by the last weight I was when I went to the MD? or do they weigh me in the orientation class? thank you btw for responding so quickly. Guest guest
Esther: I just wanted to encourage you because I know how torturous the waiting can be. I was SO, SO, SO impatient, but thanks to this group and other support groups, I was able to use the time to work on me. I really decided that if I was going to do this, I was going to do it " all the way. " In other words, if they said I needed to exercise, I was going to find a way to make it work, no matter what. If they said I needed to give up some foods, well, that's what I was going to do. If they said I needed to think about myself in a whole new way, well, that's what I was going to do. I opened my heart and mind fully to the process. Yes, it was scary, but with these fine people here and other angels along the way, I made it. And now I'm 2.5 years post-op, I've lost 153 lbs, and the diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and acid reflux are gone. I can't even believe I'm writing this, but I run a minimum of 12 miles a week, and I lift weights. I'm up at the crack of dawn with all those skinny, healthy, young (and young at heart) runners along the Embarcadero in San Francisco. If you would have asked me 3 years ago (when I was approved for surgery) if I would have been living on my own (with out my ex), training for a marathon, dating handsome, successful men, I would have said that you were out of your mind. But my world has forever been transformed by this miracle, but I had to be open to it. I had do my best to make it work for me. Am I perfect? NO. Am I persistent? YES. I will never give up on me. And before you know it, it'll be your turn, and you will complete the circle by offering your words of wisdom to the newbies. Best of luck to you. Keep us updated on your progress. Francisco open rny 06/03/03, Kaiser Richmond reconstruction 1 05/25/04 reconstruction 2 12/15/04 -153 lbs at goal 1 year, 3 months half marathon (13.1 miles)completed 07/31/05 full marathon (26.2 miles) training starts 02/04/06 living life more fully now than ever happy beyond belief > > It is South San Francisco. Guest guest
My best girlfriend is getting ready for her surgery at SSF. You will be weight in at orientation and that is the weight they loose to determine what your goal weight will be for surgery. My girlfriend didn't have the 10% requirement, she only had to loose like 10lbs. I believe her's was Orientation and Nutrition in the same day. Then one on one with a nutritionist, then case mgr. The work on meeting goal and going to classes. Then she met goal and had to wait like 1 month to meet surgeron. Then she had to wait for a date to come avail because they were busy. She just got her date, Feb13th and she has to do the EKG, Lab work, and Chest x-ray over again. Because like you she did them first, but they can't be used because they were done more then 6 months ago from surgery. So she is doing them over again!! So the process takes about 1 year... she started in April 05 with acceptable letter to the program and it's not Feb 06 and she is having surgery. Keep up the faith, and you'll be fine. I'm 3lbs from goal, and I'm super excited at all the weight I've lost on my own. I'm at Kaiser Richmond, and remeber this, each program even if it's Kaiser is different for each center. Guest guest
Wow, well guess I am getting through it faster than your friend. I started in August 05, and I don't see why it can't take place in April or May. Well, I am hopeful, that it won't take a whole year, but the wait will be worth it. wonder why they sent us the pre-op stuff..weird.
