With all the comments on this board about how many surgeries different surgeons have done, I have not seen us comment on anyone who only did 13 surgeries. Except for the one Dr. who did only 2 that we knew of.....Anyway, I am very concerned now that people are going to start speculating that is might be Dr. so and so and it probably isn't at all. Just check how many surgeries your surgeon has done and if its over 13, he isn't the guy. Remember, this woman asked him in the meeting how many DS he had done. Instead of being honest THEN (and saying NONE) he looked at his list (of names) and said " by the time I get to You, I WILL HAVE done 13. " Sounds to me like the day she asked him, he had done ZERO. I wonder how the other 12 turned out? The guy doesn't even KNOW what he is doing obviously. He didn't even have the 100 behind him that was discussed on this list. I doubt he even watched the " training video " (tounge in cheek) that was also discussed on this list. The real benefit from this is to realize that we are LUCKY to have a list like this that keeps us informed as to who the experienced surgeons in this field are. I feel sorry for the people " off line " who walk into a Dr. office for WLS and get told about DS and get signed up and have no clue to even ask if there is any experience behind this surgeon. It also bears thinking about that if DS catches on, more and more Drs are going to decide to do the procedure to make the bucks. I just hope they learn HOW to do it before they start operating. This Dr. sounds like your typical arrogant surgeon - probably young, just out of medical school - probably didn't even do RNY before deciding to do DS. The ONLY GOOD thing they did was get the patient to a Dr. who knew what he was doing before she died, but they sure waited long enough to do it. She has a great law suit against him, with the backing up of her records and sucessful surgery with Dr. Hess. She SHOULD persue it to prevent this guy from killing any more people. However, it is probably things like this that make insurance companies nervous, too and make them think DS is bad. It isn't the DS that it is bad, it is surgeons who don't know what they are doing. AND if anyone IS on his list talking about what a great Dr. he is, they also should know what the heck is really doing out there. AGAIN, tho, I DOUBT it is any of the surgeons we are talking about here. I doubt any of us have ever even heard his name. Carole
