Guest guest
We had the lack of pain sensation and high B12 (which I think indicates that) prior to dairy and gluten removal and fluoridated water removal. We no longer have it. While we are E responders, this issue is not something E addresses. My point in saying so is that if that remains an issue allergen may be at play. I am an E fan but do not believe in giving that vitamin extra jobs. > > /links > folder: Vitamin E > > Vitamin E could help with lack of pain sensation. has talked > about ph being able to feel pain after starting Vitamin E. > Geng is another person that has mentioned it helping Tanner. Guest guest
Hi Janice: here are some symptoms of Vitamin E deficiency http://lpi.oregonstate.edu/infocenter/vitamins/vitaminE/ Vitamin E deficiency has been observed in individuals with severe malnutrition, genetic defects affecting the alpha-tocopherol transfer protein, and fat malabsorption syndromes. For example, children with cystic fibrosis or cholestatic liver disease, who have an impaired capacity to absorb dietary fat and therefore fat-soluble vitamins, may develop symptomatic vitamin E deficiency. Severe vitamin E deficiency results mainly in neurological symptoms, including impaired balance and coordination (ataxia), injury to the sensory nerves (peripheral neuropathy), muscle weakness (myopathy), and damage to the retina of the eye (pigmented retinopathy). For this reason, people who develop peripheral neuropathy, ataxia or retinitis pigmentosa should be screened for vitamin E deficiency (2). The developing nervous system appears to be especially vulnerable to vitamin E deficiency because children with severe vitamin E deficiency from birth, who are not treated with vitamin E, develop neurological symptoms rapidly. In contrast, individuals who develop malabsorption of vitamin E in adulthood may not develop neurological symptoms for 10-20 years. It should be noted that symptomatic vitamin E deficiency in healthy individuals who consume diets low in vitamin E has never been reported (10). http://www.merck.com/mmpe/sec01/ch004/ch004l.html Symptoms and Signs In children, chronic cholestatic hepatobiliary disease or cystic fibrosis causes neurologic deficits, including spinocerebellar ataxia with loss of deep tendon reflexes, truncal and limb ataxia, loss of vibration and position senses, ophthalmoplegia, muscle weakness, ptosis, and dysarthria. I don't know enough about plasma Vitamin E levels to respond. Perhaps can respond to blood tests coming up normal. Guest guest
Marks E levels are normal but he lacked pain sensation. This is a low muscle tone issue and perhaps carnitine and low EFA has something to do with it but I have to question the vitamin E relationship here.... Perhaps there is a study that I have not read that associates muscle tone with vitamin E....? No disrespect intended..... Guest guest
I wonder if high B12 and aluminum mask pain in some of these kids and E as the powerful antioxidant that it is, cleans up allergic stuff and aluminum. I don't know about any studies but here is our E experience: Country Life E: articulates better and loses all upper body (not completely mouth though) tone issues. He literally looks for things to hang from and use his upper body strentgh. Twin Labs E (no soy): articulates better and has lower body strength. These were reactions we had a while ago before having to go off. The poop we had was grey with black specs. The poop Stan Kurtz has seen in recovering autism kids. No one has found a way to test it but the specs are thought to be old blood. > > > > /links > > folder: Vitamin E > > > > Vitamin E could help with lack of pain sensation. has > talked > > about ph being able to feel pain after starting Vitamin E. > > > Geng is another person that has mentioned it helping Tanner. > Please > > take a look in the Vitamin E folder for information to read through. > > > > > /message/72356 > > (Neuro symptoms of vit E deficiency: Speech > > difficulty, coordination problems, low tone, loss of reflexes, loss > > of pain sensation (high pain tolerance), poor proprioception and > > positional sense - ie poor concept of body's position in space - so > > walks into walls etc). Guest guest
Vitamin E resolved Elliott's lack of pain sensation. Before it, he had never cried when he got his finger pricked at the doc's, never cried when he fell down and had clearly hurt himself, we never knew he had MAJOR athlete's foot at 1 year old until we looked way up under & between his toes and found them to be bright red with crusty yellow stuff (sorry for the nice mental image there). There is no way that wasn't itchy and painful, but he never once gave us an indication. Makes me thankful he couldn't feel it at the time, although the ability to feel pain is extremely important. Now he feels everything, thank God. > > > > > > /links > > > folder: Vitamin E > > > > > > Vitamin E could help with lack of pain sensation. has > > talked > > > about ph being able to feel pain after starting Vitamin E. > > > > > Geng is another person that has mentioned it helping Tanner. > > Please > > > take a look in the Vitamin E folder for information to read > through. > > > > > > > > > /message/7235 6 > > > (Neuro symptoms of vit E deficiency: Speech > > > difficulty, coordination problems, low tone, loss of reflexes, > loss > > > of pain sensation (high pain tolerance), poor proprioception and > > > positional sense - ie poor concept of body's position in space - > so > > > walks into walls etc). Guest guest
Thanks. I'm going to look at switching mine up and see if I can get better results.... Janice [sPAM]]Re:[ ] Re: Vitamin E - lack of pain sensation We use Vitamin Shoppe high gamma- it has 200iu d-alpha and 200mg high gamma. Landon (4yr) right now needs the equal ratio and this is considered a low dose, but we have seen better articulation and less tiredness in the afternoon. Guest guest
> Kids with apraxia have no pain sensation. Ethan never completely lacked pain sensation. He used to cry and run to my husband or I if he fell down hard enough. He also had lots of teething pain. He did used to have a higher pain tolerance level though. That too seems to have remained the same despite the lower dose of vitamin E we have been giving him lately. Maybe it was never a transport issue with him - just a low level? Could it possibly be related to different things in different kids even if they share an apraxia dx? Nadine
Guest guest
Janice, I use Perfect E by www.Lenandjoe.com. They are homeopathic MDs. They have terrific radio site and radio show on top of a private pratice. I use them as well for Charlie in finding the BEST QUALITY Suppliments. Quality is extremely important. They are very knowledgeable. My father uses them. He had/has epplipasy (sp) and has seasures when he eats certain foods. They have pretty much solved this with him. I also use their buffered C. I give Charlie 2 per day. 800 iu Vitamin E - Perfect E Comprised of: Mixed Tocopherols 536mg d-gamma tocopherol 400 mg d-delta tocopherol 91 mg d-beta tocopherol 45 mg Tocotrienols (frompalm) 40 mg Gamma tocotrientol 21 mg Delta tocotrienol 6mg Alpha Tocotrienol 12 mg Beta tocotrienol 1mg Colleen Mother of Charlie 30 months ]Re:[ ] Re: Vitamin E - lack of pain sensation , What specific brand of E are you using? I am beginning to find that brand is often important. How much E do you give each day? Perhaps this is a key for Mark.... we may not be using the brand of E. Always willing to give anothers success a shot...... It would be curious to know which E moms like the best? We know that Nordic Naturals is a loved fish oil but which E is everyone using? Guest guest
I have to wonder...... is there a 'time limit' with regards to neurological damage ie. the low tone, etc. I know that we did remedy Mark's pain sensory channels but it was a lot of work and a lot of therapy. My question is this.... does the supplement protocol success rate drop down as a child ages? I would guess that the answer is 'yes'. This is why the youngsters see such rapid and noticeable success from supplementation. Yet, I do see improvements for Mark in supplementation..... it is just a lot more subtle and easier to miss. The effects are less " WOW " (like the toddlers), look at this new skill but more like ..... oh, he is really being helpful today, has good eye contact and high energy and is really focused... I don't have to repeat myself..... We have had a few supplements that I have had 'wow' moments such as glutatione and the DMSA challenge (sulfer stuff) but everything else is extremely subtle. So, I think it is easier to miss improvements as a child ages and perhaps some improvements will only come with therapy and other improvements will be affected by the biomed. The older the child, definately, the more therapy that is needed. That is why you all with toddlers shouldn't be afraid to work the supplements. There is definately a 'window' for certain things like McCarthy suggests though I do believe that older kids like Mark are equally helped..... they will not necessarily experience the same success as a child who has yet many milestones ahead of him rather than behind him..... (Did I make sense?) But I will switch up the E and see if it helps with body mass and tone. Mark has been eating about 10 meals a day since we did DMSA round 1 this weekend. He is hungry, hungry, hungry. I can almost see him getting taller in front of my very eyes... 13, time to grow! Guest guest
Thankyou! Diet only moved us from high pain tolerance to normal but light touch remained a problem until recently for . Recently though we got a multi in it with 70 iu of the right E. That coupled with E taken in the past may be enough but I think we'll be upping it after coagulation labs. Just yesterday I mentioned to hubby that is more cuddly and actually encourages us to touch him in the face head and neck...light touch problem areas before. I believe this will make Prompt Therapy, which we start in three short weeks, easier. I will read the book. There are no words. You have helped me and mine more than anyone. Thank you so very much! As an aside, I took E first (I take everything I give my kids first) and continue taking it as it has helped me. For my concussion yesterday I took Omega 3 as my antiinflammatory. Husband, research scientist, insisted on nuprin at bedtime though. I get it...finally. I get what these things help. Sorry I took so long to come around. I am glad I did not just jump in on E though as our need was dietary and not transport, likely because we are not dealing with pure apraxia here. We do have a celiac E responder for sure in my daughter. > > > Kids with apraxia have no pain sensation. > > > > Ethan never completely lacked pain sensation. Guest guest
>(whether from low levels in the blood because you have a genetic syndrome ... Since you mentioned this, what I really need to know is, if a child does have a mild genetic syndrome that has hematological characteristics involving clotting factors, is it safe (in your opinion) to give vitamin E and high doses of fish oil? I guess that what I am asking in a nutshell is are there any times it is contraindicated? Thanks again. Nadine

Guest guest
Okay, I have not even 'approached' the dosage that everyone else is using and the E I have been using has been all d-alpha. I will change it up and begin to ramp up the dosage and see if it is if we get a response. Since Mark is 13, we may not..... but unless I try it correctly, I will never know. Also, puberty is around the corner. After that, it will be tough to change too much for him I think. Time is fast running out..... cannot waste a moment of it. Guest guest
The Listening Program for sensory stuff has been a Godsend. We are about to do disc 4. All I can say is I have been crying for three days. I did not realize how close to spectrum's door we were and how far away my boy had gotten had we not known enough to take action. It haunts me. > > > > > > > > > > > > http://health. > > <http://health. > < /links> > /group/ /links> > > /group/ /links > > > > > folder: Vitamin E > > > > > > > > > > Vitamin E could help with lack of pain sensation. > > has > > > > talked > > > > > about ph being able to feel pain after starting Vitamin > > E. > > > > > > > > > Geng is another person that has mentioned it helping > Tanner. > > > > Please > > > > > take a look in the Vitamin E folder for information to read > > > through. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > http://health. > > > <http://health. > < /message/7235 > > /group/ /message/7235 > > > > /group/ /message/7235 > > 6 > > > > > (Neuro symptoms of vit E deficiency: Speech > > > > > difficulty, coordination problems, low tone, loss of > > reflexes, > > > loss > > > > > of pain sensation (high pain tolerance), poor > proprioception > > and > > > > > positional sense - ie poor concept of body's position in > > space - > > > so > > > > > walks into walls etc). Guest guest
Liz, I need to get to the listening program. My OT gave me two discs and we did it for one day. I am not one to start something and not complete it: however, I have to get this metal thing under control and start a new program and see results. Then move onto the Listening Program. Your thoughts? By the way, thought I would share some good news this week... Charlie scored OFF the CHARTS in language and retention for his age! Now the dyspraxia stuff and dropping consinents...etc. Glad we went into over drive last August. Colleen Mother of Charlie 30 months. Guest guest
Here is the question: What further work up? We fit a lot but not all of this. Though on diet a lot of our labs normalized so maybe that is the extent of it. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > http://health. > > > > <http://health. > > > < /links> > > > /group/ /links> > > > > /group/ /links > > > > > > > folder: Vitamin E > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Vitamin E could help with lack of pain sensation. > > > > has > > > > > > talked > > > > > > > about ph being able to feel pain after starting > Vitamin > > > > E. > > > > > > > > > > > > > Geng is another person that has mentioned it helping > > > Tanner. > > > > > > Please > > > > > > > take a look in the Vitamin E folder for information to > read > > > > > through. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > http://health. > > > > > > > <http://health. > > > > > > < /message/7235 > > > > > > /group/ /message/7235 > > > > > > > > /group/ /message/7235 > > > > 6 > > > > > > > (Neuro symptoms of vit E deficiency: Speech > > > > > > > difficulty, coordination problems, low tone, loss of > > > > reflexes, > > > > > loss > > > > > > > of pain sensation (high pain tolerance), poor > > > proprioception > > > > and > > > > > > > positional sense - ie poor concept of body's position in > > > > space - > > > > > so > > > > > > > walks into walls etc).
