Guest guest
My hair is thining out...It looks fine when you look at me but I am shedding like crazy and it feels thinner to me. I used to have a full set of hair. I'm getting B12 shots once a month...and just doing the usual shampoo and conditioner thing (I use pureology and aveda products). Any suggestions on shampoo? vitamins? meds? Anything?! Thanks, Azin (ps I've lost a little over 80 lbs now!)
Guest guest
I have B12 shots twice a week. They cost $12 for each here in Germany. "Azeeeeeeeeeeen! Guest guest
I use Pantene Pro V with extra protein in it. > My hair is thining out...It looks fine when you look at me but I am shedding like crazy and > it feels thinner to me. Guest guest
The hair loss is due to the shock of the radical surgical procedure. Hair loss of this type is documented to result from major medical events such as surgery, child birth, or major illness. Almost everyone who has RNY gets it, to one degree or another. EVERYONE's hair grows back, but if you had thin hair to start with, you will notice the hair loss more. Your hair starts growing back immediately, about 1/2 inch a month. The regrowth starts to show in about 6 months to a year. Nothing helps except proper nutrition. And of course, all postops have a very limited ability to take in nutrients. Luckily, if you do what you're told (protein first) you will be okay and your capacity to eat will get better. Meanwhile, there's nothing you can do to stop the hair loss, and nothing you can do to improve regrowth. The seeminly miraculous results people report from things like Biotin, etc. are just normal regrowth which seems remarkable after weeks of fallout and thin hair. I think it's like the common cold: You're going to get better anyway, but if you're taking special expensive toad's toenail tea you swear it's the tea that made you better. Guest guest
Beth had suggested taking Biotin (a B vitamin) to help with the hair loss. I opted to start taking it, but I am only a few days out from surgery, so I don't yet know how well it will work. It might be worth a try. Guest guest
Martha, thanks for posting this. I hear so many people talk about biotin and Nioxin (while its true Nioxin works on cancer patients for regrowth and can have the same effect on RNY patients) I think that we should focus on the nutrition and the hair will come back. Thanks again.
