Guest guest
> > people who have had the RNY have told me that the > RNY . . . is the " gold standard " of WLS. " ; The woman is correct about this one fact. The R-n-y IS in fact called the 'Gold Standard' by those who prefer it. That is a well known fact (that they call it the Gold Standard; not that it is). I think that is another attempt to elevate the public opinion of their surgery above its derserved position. However, if you speak with that woman again, you can explain to her that while her procedure might be the 'Gold Standard', the DS is rgarded as the 'PLATINUM STANDARD'; It is both more rare and far more valuable. Are you still researching all the procedures? My own incredibly excellent surgeon does all of them (Adj. Band; R-n-y; and DS). She does them all laprascopically. I tried to get her to explain to me the reason the r-n-y is still seen by some to be the procedure of choice; why would a surgeon ever even recommend it? She said that it is a simpler procedure that provides suitable weight loss results for some people. That's about all she could say in favor of it. However, in 6 months time, I was only her second DS. Every single one of her other surgeries besides another person in January and then my own in July have been r-n-y's. Isn't that weird? Go figure. By the way, my own surgery went without a hitch. I was in the hospital for 3 days, I've not had any unusual pain, my bowels are getting back to normal. I've been so very blessed with a speedy and uneventful recovery. Far be it from me to tell others what they should or shouldn't do. I did enough research that I was positive about which procedure I wanted and enough homework on my surgeon (Dr. Emma ) to have confidence in her skill. I only hope others will give themselves the gift of really looking into this whole business before settling for less than the best. You know, I think a lot of r-n-y'ers may still be trying to justify to themselves that they did not go the same route we have. Best of luck, gobo DGB/ Dr. July 9, 2001 Down 23 pounds so far!
