Guest guest
Hello sexy mummy-to-be! Love that name! Welcome to our group! There's been back and forth discussion about a possible link between m. add. and CF...some yes, some no. I know for us, my MIL & her sister both had it, and my daughter (Ava, 11 months) was born with a right CF. Who knows? Maybe with more research they'll get a definitive answer. In the meantime, it's good you're doing your research. I think most everyone on here who was told their baby had CF from a u/s ended up with the correct diagnosis, from what I remember. We didn't know until she was born. I'm sure others will chime in. I recall someone saying they can usually tell if your baby has CF from a u/s, but can't tell how severe it will be. Hope this helps! But welcome, and please ask away--we're just dying to share! Oh, and please give us more info--boy or girl? Name yet? Is this your first? As long as you don't mind, that is! , mommy of: Guinevere, on, Ava 8/4/04 Right Clubfoot & ABS, FAB 16/7 > Hello!, > > I am currently 23 weeks pergnant, and had found out my little guy has > bilateral clubfeet. > I was born with Metatarsus Adductus or In-toeing, and had to wear a > brace as an infant. my feet today are perfectly fine! > I have read extensively on the internet that often club foot and M. > Adductus can be confused??....Is this so??....has anyone been wrongly > diagnosed..... Guest guest
Hi , Thanks for the reply! This is my first, and it is a little boy!!! we are thinking for first name ....I am from Toronto, Canada and this week I saw one of the best ped-orthotics specialists at Sick Kids up here!!, he explained the Ponseti method....as my b-friend and I were sitting there listening I was thinking, wow from internet research, I can finish his sentences!!.....anyhow, I was very upset at first when my OB told us just b/c C/F sounds like some hunch back deformity that can not be rectified!, never knew exactly what it was!! All my other tests were perfect!, Spina Bifida and down syndrome were extremely low...PHEW!! After being at the clinic, at Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto, I see that there are much worse things my baby could have (very sad to see some children tied to wheel chairs for the rest of their lives) But through research I feel so much better about it! Now questions..... did your clinics monitor the baby through u/s through the pregnancy?, also my guy has bi-lateral c/f, how small are the calves/feet? I read alot about surgery, can this be rectified without it?? My b-friend's plans for this little guy are to be an NHL'er, so somehow, I think he will be active 24/7 ...LOL > > Hello!, > > > > I am currently 23 weeks pergnant, and had found out my little guy > has > > bilateral clubfeet. > > I was born with Metatarsus Adductus or In-toeing, and had to wear a > > brace as an infant. my feet today are perfectly fine! > > I have read extensively on the internet that often club foot and M. > > Adductus can be confused??....Is this so??....has anyone been > wrongly > > diagnosed..... Guest guest
Hi there. Congratulations on your pregnancy. I, too am wondering about a possible " misdiagnosis " . I am almost 22 weeks pregnant and my baby boy was diagnosed with possible clubfoot. I have asked around and many people have recommended I have another ultrasound - a 3D/4D ultrasound. It's more definitive. With the 4D ultrasound it may even be possible to see the movement in the feet - to see the flexibility to some degree. I guess it's worth a shot. I will be having the ultrasound in 2-3 weeks so I will let you know how it turns out. Good luck. > Hello!, > > I am currently 23 weeks pergnant, and had found out my little guy has > bilateral clubfeet. Guest guest
I am having a 3/D ultrasound on July 19th!...so we will see what happens. Look at it this way, their little feet can be rectified, and they live normal active lives!...there are definitely worse things that could happen!! I am just a little apprehensive b/c my mom had been dis-diagnosed by an ultrasound Dr. for a breast abnormality, just think 2nd opinion is good! > > Hello!, > > > > I am currently 23 weeks pergnant, and had found out my little guy > has > > bilateral clubfeet. > > I was born with Metatarsus Adductus or In-toeing, and had to wear > a > > brace as an infant. my feet today are perfectly fine! > > I have read extensively on the internet that often club foot and > M. > > Adductus can be confused??....Is this so??....has anyone been > wrongly > > diagnosed..... Guest guest
It's great that we are lucky to have found out before the baby is born and can research treatments, etc. I think I blew it out of proportion when they told me about the clubfoot. I had this silly image of those old movies where the bad guy limps because of a clubfoot. What a nut I am. I feel 100% better now that I've done the research and know that clubfoot is really no big thing and can be corrected. I'm thankful that it's nothing else. Let me know how your ultrasound goes. > > > Hello!, > > > > > > I am currently 23 weeks pergnant, and had found out my little > guy > > has > > > bilateral clubfeet. > > > I was born with Metatarsus Adductus or In-toeing, and had to > wear > > a > > > brace as an infant. my feet today are perfectly fine! > > > I have read extensively on the internet that often club foot and > > M. > > > Adductus can be confused??....Is this so??....has anyone been > > wrongly > > > diagnosed..... Guest guest
Me too! I thought that it wsa those people in the movies that had to wear the shoes that were blocks all stacked up high!! ...LOL... I am so glad to know about htis before in order to get prepared, see specialists and get it taken care of asap! I had intoeing as a baby, or Metatarsus Adductus and had to wear a brace, but do not remember it at all! and I was a ballet dancer for 20 years of my life!, so things will be ok for your little one too I am sure! novemberfable wrote: It's great that we are lucky to have found out before the baby is born and can research treatments, etc. I think I blew it out of proportion when they told me about the clubfoot. Guest guest
Hi sexymummytobe & novemberfable- I was in both of your shoes a couple of months ago. I am 32 weeks pregnant and found out my baby has bilateral cf during our 22 week ultrasound. My doctor wanted a second one, just in case, through their hospital, which has the 3-D ultrasound, and we waited a month to see the baby's growth. However, it was confirmed about the bcf, but we received some beautiful pics of the baby--3-D is amazing. My husband and I were surprised because it does not run in either families. We were worried just like you and after doing research and finding support groups, we feel reassured. It is now just a waiting game. We have a game plan of using the Ponseti method, but we won't know the severity of the feet until he/she is born. I know you will be doing a lot of research about cf, but enjoy your pregnancy & baby. Everything happens for a reason and babies are blessings. This is correctable!! Good luck with the ultrasound and remember many people are here to support you. Guest guest
I am excited too and have stopped worrying about the cf. I know it will be alright and we'll get through it. I can't wait to see my cutie in a 3D ultrasound. He is so active in my tummy that I'm sure he too will pull through this without any difficulty. > > > > Hello!, > > > > > > > > I am currently 23 weeks pergnant, and had found out my little > > guy > > > has > > > > bilateral clubfeet. > > > > I was born with Metatarsus Adductus or In-toeing, and had to > > wear > > > a > > > > brace as an infant. my feet today are perfectly fine! > > > > I have read extensively on the internet that often club foot > and > > > M. > > > > Adductus can be confused??....Is this so??....has anyone been > > > wrongly > > > > diagnosed..... > > > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
Let your boyfriend know that Troy Aikman was born with clubfoot! If you use the Ponseti Method, his feet can be corrected without surgery. Now, he may need a tenotomy which is a small procedure that snips the achilles tendon, that some may consider surgery. But it is very minor compared to reconstructive surgery of the whole foot (which isn't needed in the Ponseti Method). Congrats on your pregnancy!!! Guest guest
Thank you! Yes, the pediatric othotics surgeon at Sick Kids in Toronto uses the Ponseti method and will use it on my little guy! he outlined the little 10min procedure to release the tendon. susan.shook@... wrote: Let your boyfriend know that Troy Aikman was born with clubfoot!
