Guest guest
, I was started on ice chips the 2nd day after surgery and by the 3rd day I was eating a soft diet of cream of wheat, oatmeal, jello, ice cream with sherbert in it, mashed potatoes, toast, etc....only problem was I wasnt hungry! I would take 2-3 bites of whatever appealed to me and that was it for about 10 days. By the time I was 10 days out, I had a soft taco from taco bell, refried beans with grated cheese, and half a cheeseburger from Mcs! I ate entirely different than the RNY patients....I drank water the 2nd day......I sipped alot and the water bottle went with me everywhere I went. By the 2nd week I was gulping water a little..... Guest guest
, The answer to these questions largely depends upon your surgeon. Each one seems to have a different postsurgical regimen. My surgeon is Dr. Anthone at USC. I believe I was given ice chips as soon as I had the leak test (which I think was the day after surgery). After that I was given liquids, as well as real food while in the hospital. I was sent home on a " soft " diet but basically told I could eat whatever worked for me. Guest guest
I have to agree with Steve. If I drink with my meals I can only eat 2 to 2 & 1/2 ounces. If I wait I can eat 3 1/2 to 4 ounces. I do not drink for atleast 15 min to 1/2 hour after a meal. I find that if I drink any sooner than that I will be hungry 2 hours later. Whereas if I wait I will be hungry 4 hours later which is on schedule with my meals. I also have to stop drinking 15 minutes or more before eating. If I drink right up until meal time I don't wan't to eat. I feel full. > >...Many RNYers can not tolerate beef.....I love fillet mignons and prime rib > > So do I.
