Guest guest
Sure, Lee. Dr. Gagner has begun to do the BPD/DS in 2 parts lap with patients who have a higher BMI. Mine was 63. The first part he does is the sleeve gastrectomy which is where he cuts away the majority of your stomach leaving a banana shaped segment which includes the Pylorous Valve. Then he sends us home to lose approx. 100 lbs. which is usually within 4-6 months. Then we go back for a second surgery where he'll finish the BPD/DS by doing the " switching " of the intestines. When you're super morbidly obese as I am, the risks of being under anesthesia for a long time are worse. This way it only takes him under a couple of hours each time, with the complication rate the second time being less, because I'll be much thinner. There are most definately different opionions out there about this. I, myself, was afraid of a super long incision that may have to heal from the inside out with drains. Call me Chicken!!! On the other hand, this was only a chance and when I read how well from Philly (way to go !) is doing after having her surgery open with Dr. Pomp on 6/27...I wish I was a little braver! January will be alot nicer for her! > Can I ask? What is a sleeve gastroctomy? > thanks so much, > Lee > > ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >
