Guest guest
Hello, everyone! I have two separate questions. (8 months old next week) has a right club foot and is currently in the FAB for 14-16 hours a day. I've recently noticed more and more that when he sits up, his body leans to the right and his head leans to the left. Looks almost like an " S " from the back. He DOES have torticollis, but the way he leans his body that way just looks weird to me. Has anyone seen anything similar. He had spinal x-rays when he was born and no one mentioned anything about scoliosis, but who knows? Also, he has unilateral right CF and when he's out of the shoes, he usually keeps his left leg bent and the foot dorsiflexed normally, but the right leg is usually kept straight and the toes pointing down. Is this normal? I believe his foot is fully corrected. He's had no probelms with the shoes. He also has just recently started standing for a few seconds at a time with help, so I don't know if that will help keep his foot more dorsiflexed. If anyone has anything to say about any of this, I'd love to hear! Thanks in advance to everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!! mommy of (12/15/04 RT CF, FAB 14/16 hrs a day) __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Our 16 month old, Elijah has always sat with one leg out and one leg under him. He's RCF and keeps the right foot out and the left under him. My husband will pull the left leg out and Elijah will put it right back under, LOL! Ive not noticed that he sits curvy tho'. Guest guest
I think we can all relate...I feel like my pediatrician thinks I'm nutty! He's seen me mother 2 other children very relaxed and laid back...never any issues, never any questions. Now every time I take Ava in I'm like " What's this? What's this? Is this a big deal? What about this? DOes this mean something? " Just yesterday she had her 1 year checkup (24 lb. 2 oz, 32 1/4 " My tallest one yet!) and I made him check her head (it felt lumpy) her eye (she has one droopy eyelid too, which my son also has and various others in my family). Then I felt stupid and didn't ask about her butt (her crack is crooked :-) no, really) I think he thinks I've lost my mind. But I really feel like I'm so over sensitive with her. We have the CF, possible ABS, and I'm always waiting for the other shoe to drop, KWIM? I try not to let that shadow her... > > Hello, everyone! I have two separate questions. Guest guest
, Its funny that you mention the butt crack. When Elijah was really young and being treated by the Air Force Dr, she asked me on several occasions to look at his butt crack and thought it looked funny, as tho' it werent fully developed and had some sort of (for lack of a better word) 'pucker' at the top. I didnt think it looked odd, it looked like the other babies Id had. I dont remember what she called the condition. lol, she also asked if any of our extended family members had that and before I could answer her with, " I have no idea. " my mind raced forward to questioning individual family members as to the condition of their butt creases and I got the giggles. She kept an eye on it and it turned out to be nothing. Guest guest
Yes, thats what she called it and I do remember, now, her mentioning spina bifida. It was such a minor thing during the worst part of our casting and tenotomies that all I recall about it is her ordering an ultrasound but as crazy as it sounds, I cant actually remember if we had one or not. During that time, Drew was on a 6 month deployment to the Gulf and I was dealing with everything alone so its a wonder that I even remembered my name then. Guest guest
I thought Spina Bifida & club foot are very related. > > > OK this is veering off of feet but Kelsey has that > > little pucker at the top of her butt as well. Guest guest
> I think clubfoot can be very related to spina bifida, but I don't think spina > bifida is very related to clubfoot if that makes much sense! Joy--That does make sense...spina bifida can cause CF (or be a contributing factor or however you want to say it), but CF can't cause s/b, is I guess what you're saying. Do they know how severe your new baby's spina bifida is? Or do they have to wait until he/she's born? (If you don't mind me asking) It does seem strange that you would have these similar things happen 2x and they say it's not related. Every doc that looked at Ava's feet immediately checked her back in our case, too. I guess that's why I figured they were linked.
