NACD Rendezvous

Haven't thought about it since we're still newbies to NACD with only

4 months under our belt...but, this could be an opportunity for a

family vacation other than going to Grandma's house. The last time

we went on vacation (it was a working vacation, we were doing the

Sensory Learning Program in Boulder,CO) was in 2004. Tell us more

about it - how long does it last and is it kid friendly for the

parent that isn't in a seminar? Does it cost to attend?

What is the Rendezvous? Seems unlikely, as taking four children on a

plane is my idea of hell, but you never know!

Last Summer, they had a Rendezvous at the beginning of July for 4 or 5 days.

All of the lectures were held outside under the shade of tents on picnic tables

with the kids playing nearby on the grass. They were all free and were held

each morning and were on various subjects, such as sensory processing, auditory

issues, nutritional issues, making program easier and one that didn't make it to

the schedule that I really wanted to hear about was with regards to helping

older teens to start their own businesses.

We got the opportunity to try out cool things like neurodevelopmental feedback

programs for ADHD issues, TLP with bone conduction, etc. Program evaluations

were scheduled each afternoon (speech as well) at the Ogden office and they also

organized events such as little excursions with the kids (which we tended to

miss). Bob actually organized a lake day with boating and such on the last day

but we had to get to the airport so missed it. I am envious of the others who

got to enjoy this!

We all stayed at these beautiful condos in the middle of 'nowhere'..... Eden,

Utah but they were absolutely gorgeous and the landscape was quite

extraordinary. I brought my daughter along with Mark and we turned the long

weekend into a little holliday.

This year the schedule is a little problematic as the Rendezvous begins the last

day of my kids school. To get there on time, I would have to leave on the

second last day of school and I am not sure if the kids have exams that day or

not.... it is a little tricky. But I would like to make the effort if the

lectures are going to be new.... we shall see.

It was a fun time for my kids and I believe it was a great experience to see

kids were are really struggling yet are overcoming their disabilities

(particularly for my NT daughter who hasn't had as much exposure to ND's as

Mark). Becoming more familiar with different disabilities made my girl a better

person and opened her mind substantially.
