hi denise,

Thank you for an interesting and relevant topic. I have gained alot

from all the email responses ..you have received...

I am also waiting for surgery...and I am nervous and excited at the

same time. My husband is trying his best to be supportive...but the

truth of the matter is ..he is terrified....Terrified of the

risks, terrified of what he can't control..and what he can't fix for

me.

What seems to work for us now...as we plan for the surgery...is to

focus on getting me as healthy as I can be prior to the surgery...to

aid in my recovery....

So we have started walking each night....we start out slow ( I get

tired..very easily)...and each day we walk more . I get company when

I am out walking ( it is also- helps me stay motivated )..He on the

other had..feels like he is participating in something positive....

During those walks..we talk alot and we laugh. In fact, I have shared

with him some of the humurous stories that I read from this group !

( thank you Liane!)

In the last week, we found out that my husband has high blood

pressure...He is not obese...but he now has to " walk " - get some

exercise for his well-being as well....

We are making small changes in the food we eat... ( we do everything

in small stages...it makes transitions a little easier)...each day we

modify or eliminate something ....i hesitate using the word..dieting..

because I hate Diets..and refuse to do them again....

Since, I have yet to find a surgeon....we still have the time to plan

and research...I expect my biggest challenge for us will be the day

of and after my surgery. We recently located to Florida ( big mistake-

but that is a story for another time)...most of my friends and family

live in New York and Boston.....

So I will have to depend on my husband for support..My husband is a

Former Marine....and in the past in times of

stress ..he goes in to what I call " Marine Mode " ...somewhat stoic,

very methodical...not very nuturing...

( somestimes a pain in the ass). It is something he and we are

going to have to work on.LOL.

My husband and I are going to out first WLS support group meeting in

Orlando on Aug.7th. It is also his birthday..but my sweetie of a

husband insists we go...and celebrate his birthday after the meeting.

I think he is looking forward to it....and I know he has questions of

his own...

Good luck to you ..and with your upcoming surgery !

I wish you well...and if you would like to share ideas...let me know !
