sleep apnea and surgery

Hi all. I've been lurking, mostly, and taking advantage of all the

knowledge available through this list. I've also been going through

the hoops of getting a referral from Kaiser. I just spoke with their

sleep apnea expert and was told that he might need two months to get

me ready for surgery. I do have a high BMI (68) and I can't get a copy

of the original sleep study done in 1996. but I'm getting so tired of

delays.

Anyhow, I'm a little confused as to what sleep apnea has to do with

surgical complications. My breathing, I suspect, will be monitored by

the anesthesiologist and I'll have the CPAP on post op. Can you help?

I think I'm probably being fairly dense? Thanks.
