HI, EVERYONE! I had a lap DS with gallbladder removal on January 25, 2001.

My mother is 61, mo and has recently developed diabetes in addition to other

related co-morbidities (arthritis, high cholesterol, high blood pressure,

sleep apnea). She is extremely hesitant about surgery due to her age and

also the fact that she had open gallbladder removal and most likely extensive

adhesions due to this.

In order for her to make an informed decision about whether surgery is for

her, I want to provide her with info on obesity-related diabetes and how

surgery can alleviate it. Also, if there are any post-op ds folk out there

in my mom's age range, it would be great for her to have some people to talk

with and find out about how surgery was, what the post-op recovery was like,

etc.

THanks so much! You can privately e-mail me at ruisha@...

all the best,

I am 61. Co-morbidities included high blood pressure,

hyperlipidemia, pain in knee and hip joints, and sleep apnea. I am

just about 3 months post-op. Back at work for four weeks already

)desk job). First two days post-op were painful, as with most of the

DS patients. But, after that, no pain meds taken. It took me about

6 weeks to get to the point where I felt like less like a recovering

patient, than a well individual with a bit of healing left to do. I

am down 50 pounds, with 125 pounds to go. Already wearing clothes

that have hung in the closet for 3-5 years because they were way too

tight. Now, they are loose, and I will have to start wearing the

next previous generation of clothes that shrank in the closet ;-).

I am back on my every-other-day exercise routine (30 min on the

recumbent bike and then some weight training on a universal machine).

Just had my blood work this past Monday, but no results yet.
