I'll have to take at least enough money to take a taxi to the airport, and a

credit card to buy a ticket home. Does anyone know whether Mt Sinai has

lockers in the room or somewhere safe to put a purse?

Thanks, sheryl

Sheryl: I think they have closets (without locks). I can't remember if they

have handles that stick out (and you could viably put a manual lock on with

or without a short cable)....

But, they can take valuables and hold them for you when you go into surgery.

It took quite awhile for my stuff to get back to me (I just had clothing,

etc. not a purse or anything like that). I wouldn't bring anything really

important in any event --- but I think they do lock the things up (they put

them in a labeled bag) and hold them for you until you are assigned a room.

Hope this helps somewhat...

Thank you very much for your information and advice Tina, I'll probably take

your advice. My airline Northwest, charges $100 now to change the flight tho.

I'm going to check the prices of one way vs roundtrip, it might end up being

cheaper for me rountrip then paying even the $100 to change it. And thank you

to everyone else who let me know about the Mt Sinai security.

Hi Sheryl,

I too had the same concerns when I went in for my surgery on the 17th of

July. They tagged my suitcase and the bag they gave me for the things I was

wearing. They locked it up and returned it to me the day after surgery.

Everything was safely intact and present. So don't worry. Good luck.

Sheryl,

They will take your luggage and lock it up. Any cash, credit

cards, checkbooks can be sent to security. The admitting nurse will

call security for you if you inform her you need to lock up cash. They

fill out a form in triplicate. You get a copy, they get a copy, and a

copy goes into your file. When you are ready to get these items back

you ask your nurse to call security. When they return the items they

will verify that everything is there with you. The remainder of your

purse will be placed in your luggage or in a plastic bag with your

clothes which is then sealed up. You will be amazed at how once you

remove these items your purse has little value to anyone other than

you.

A piece of advice from someone whose been there. You would be

better served by spending two nights in a local hotel in NYC to

rebuild your strength rather than trying to fly back home the same

day. My flight was only an hour away but it nearly killed me and took

me 3 days of almost total bed rest to recover from. In addition to

which you migt consider purchasing a roundtrip ticket on a reputable

airline. You can ask the agent at the time of purchase if you can

change the date if something happens. I know that each time I have

gone to NYC I have had to change the time. The fee was $25 but that

was a lot less than buying a one way ticket at the last minute. As

long as you call before the time of the return flight they will let

you change the time. Most people are in for 3 nights and part of day,

and are discharged before noon. So if your surgery was on a Tuesday

you could make your return flight for Friday afternoon. Or if you

decided to stay you could make it for Sunday afternoon.

Hope this helps.
