Guest guest
Hi all! I am trying to explore my options (if there are any!) for additional speech therapy for my 3 yr old son. Currently he is getting 2 30 min sessions a week at school (supposedly)- one in a group, the other one-on-one. He has straight medicaid and up until now has recieved one 1 hr session a week. I asked about an increase to 2 hrs/wk about 6 months ago but his ST said she tried, was denied, ect ect. She also said she sent his prescription separate from other paperwork so that could be the cause. We are now trying to get started with a new ST- inquired a month ago and thought then services would start in a week or two. After waiting a month to get him in with this ST that had been recommended by a couple people, the company she works for is now telling me she doesnt have openings for 1 hr twice a week like they said she did a month ago. And they said that after reviewing his goals from the old ST that he met his feeding goals and would only be eligible for 2 30 min sessions a week unless he had another feeding eval and was found to have feeding issues. He does have low muscle tone, prefers to eat stage 3 baby food and wont eat chewy or hard, crunchy foods so I am hoping this will qualify him. He turned 3 in Jan and doesnt say any clear words. He says approximations? for maybe 10 to 15 words (uk for up, mmmmmm for more when reminded to say it, iiee for bye- actually he CAN say Hi clearly- for now.) My original question was- does anyone know if Beckett is any different than straight medicaid? I tried looking it up but it sounds like what he has already. I adopted my son through foster care and he got to keep his medicaid because he was considered special needs. He did not have a diagnosis at the time of adoption but it was clear he had global delays. Also, does anyone know if there are any programs/grants for adopted children? I am a single parent and self employed so money is kind of tight right now. I want to get the most out of his insurance and whatever I can out of the school and am saving to start him in private ST later this year ( I want to have enough saved to pay for 3 months before I start him so I can keep it consistent.) I am overwhelmed and feel like we are wasting precious time while my son suffers in silence. Any advice or direction is appreciated... thanks for reading this long post! mom to Zach 3 yr global apraxia Callan 21 months speech delayed
