Guest guest
Holly, we use the rifton toilet seat which easily attaches onto the toilet with a bar that stays on the back. It was expensive but very durable. We have had the same one for 4 years and just now need to get the larger seat. They can be found on the web at www.rifton.com. We are currently awaiting approval from Beckett. It did require a letter of medical necessity. The first one we bought was funded by our county's family support program. Guest guest
Hi Holly: A couple of things. First of all do you have an Easter Seals Organization, Lions Club, Cerebal Palsy organization. These are all organizations that can help you with purchases. The other thing is my Leah is 6 1/2 years old and weighs 36 lbs. We sometimes use the potty chair for her. We just purchased for $20 the Fisher Price Royal Flush potty chair. It has a back and arms for support. I still stand by Leah so she doesn't fall off; and she has ataxia. It attaches to the toilet seat quite easily and comes off easily too. We place ours right by the toilet and it goes on quickly. And of course the best part is it plays a royal trumpet sound when Leah goes to the bathroom (and even when she moves around a lot on the toilet) I had to chuckle at that one; but it was the only toddler potty seat that had what we needed for arms and higher back than other chairs and the fact that it attaches right on a toilet seat and comes off easy. Just a few suggestions. Nerenhausen mom to Leah Holly Rubio wrote: Hi everyone! I was wondering if any of you have managed to get a "potty" covered by any type of insurance? I've found the perfect potty for Maddie, but every source of insurance we have is denying it. The thing costs $200.00, and I'm willing to pay for it (save for it- we have 4 kids and one income!) but I wanted to make sure I've exhausted all resources before footing the bill. She is really trying to get potty trained, but because of her small size (she'll be 6 in March and she's 24lbs.) and vision issues she needs something bigger than the "little" potty we have (typical toddler potty) but something smaller than the regular toilet and with "arms". It's not realistic to "attach" anything to the existing toilet because there are 6 of us using the 2 bathrooms we have. Thanks in advance for any info you all may have! Guest guest
Holly, We did get Medicaid to pay for a commode/shower chair (the Rifton Blue Wave), but I can't remember whether the home health supplier wrote it up as a commode or shower chair. You might try MDA since mito is a qualifying condition. There's also the Muscular Dystrophy Family Foundation (not affiliated with MDA): www.mdff.org Mom to Emilie, cp & complex IV Kaitlin, cp Ian
