Guest guest
For those of you who have gone to Dr. Hess, what was your first consulatation like? I have an appt for November and the nurse said to expect to stay the whole day. Why is that? Does he start doing blood testing, etc.? I know she told me that at consult you get your surgery date, which you can keep providing insurance etc. goes through and that if they have cancellations due to insurance denials, you can move up earlier. But did you spend the whole day there and what did you do? Just curious. Carole
Guest guest
I didnt spend the whole day, maybe 2-3 hours. First, you watch a video describing the surgery, then the nurse checks your vitals and takes your history. Then you meet with Hess individually. I already had insurance approval. Reply-To: duodenalswitch Date: Fri, 24 Aug 2001 18:35:59 EDT Hi.. I had my surgery with Dr. Hess in '99. The first appointment is laying the foundation for the surgery itself. You will watch a video about the surgery itself, what is done and " meet " members of the hospital staff on this tape. From what I can recall, you have a consultation with his nurse. She basically goes over your medical history from stem to stern...asking about past and current health concerns..what diets you have tried, how successful you were with them. This takes some time. You then meet with Dr. Hess. Your picture is taken in his hallway of the office..smile:) this is your before picture:)) Your meeting with Dr. Hess is videotaped (or at least it was when I went there) and then the procedure is going to be explained to you again. All questions are answered then, make sure you have a list ready for him. ANYTHING you have concerns about. You will see his calendar on the board for his surgery schedule. Your name will be added as a tentative date.. this date can change due to the quickness or slowness of your insurance company. Mine was scheduled for the fall of '99 and I ended up having my date bumped to July '99. I also recall having a physical with Dr. Dolley. No big deal with that. I went to the hospital for a breathing test and a few other things but again, I don't rememeber it being anything else that was much more than a chatting and information gathering session. Hope this little bit helped. To add, Dr. Hess has another Dr. working with him, I believe his name is Dr. Oakley. He was not there when I had my surgery. I have met him, however and he seems as kind. It is a long day, and you may be tired afterwards. My husband came along to help me take notes. It was then wonderful to go over the information that was given to us on our drive home. I started out at 5'8 " 340 and today weigh 135. Good luck..
