Guest guest
, I totally agree, when I first saw that I was not overly concerned, certainly a mild case that could be corrected in 3-4 casts could be ready for the tenotomy at that age. It wasn't until I started seeing some of the other red flags that got me worried. I think -- if you are reading Christee -- she has done just the right thing in canelling that tenotomy. allison > Actually, not really bugging me, but I was wondering...When Christee > first posted and said they wanted to do the tenotomy on her daughter, > quite a few people said that she was WAY TOO YOUNG, etc... > Assuming you've been correctly treated from birth, even with the first > cast at a week old, 5 casts would make a baby only 6 weeks. Guest guest
I think what people were saying--and what Christee was most worried about--was that Lilee was too young for was being put under (the doctor was going to do the tenotomy under general anesthesia), not getting to eat for 6 hours, having an IV put in. I don't think anyone made an issue of her not having had enough casts, though other issues did come up that are making this doctor sound not quite right. Most babies who start with the Ponseti method within the first few weeks will have tenotomies at close to 2 months old and into the FAB before they are 3 months old. That's the way it should be! Guest guest
Also, I think Christee wrote that her child was a month old, indicating just around 4 weeks... which does seem early. wrote:, I totally agree, when I first saw that I was not overly concerned, certainly a mild case that could be corrected in 3-4 casts could be ready for the tenotomy at that age. Guest guest
no, I don't think she's too young. too clarify, I don't think her foot is corrected enough to have the tenotomies yet. wrote:Actually, not really bugging me, but I was wondering...When Christee first posted and said they wanted to do the tenotomy on her daughter, quite a few people said that she was WAY TOO YOUNG, etc... Guest guest
It seems that Gabe is the exception in most of these " early months " discussions, but at 12 weeks he did need to be put under for his tenotomies because he fought so with the doctors. They couldn't hold him still enough to perform the tenotomies without it. They used gas and it was adequate enough anesthesia to get the job done. He did not need intubation. I wouldn't think they would need a IV for this simply a procedure. I believe I was allowed to breast feed up until 2 hours post-surgery. There is always the Chlorhydrate sedation too. Ponseti uses this. It knocks them out for about 30 minutes.
