Guest guest
The only reason a distal RNY would be a different " hook up " than the DS is if they really weren't making it very distal. I know some surgeons have termed 150cm bypassed as distal when to me that seems pretty medial or proximal. DS is usually something like 300-400 cm bypassed (alimentary limb of 250 to 350). But maybe the surgeon you talked to does not divert the bile very much. Just be SURE you know what they are going to do! There are SOOOO many variations on the RNY that two individuals can say they have a proximal RNY and their stats can be totally different to the point that they are not very similar. Will they transect the stomach??? This is better for maintenance, but also makes reversal almost impossible. How big will they make the pouch? These vary from 1/2 ounce to 3 ounces. Which doesn't sound like a big variance but percentage wise it is HUGE! Just be sure you understand exactly what they are going to do!!!!
