Guest guest
Subject: Blind Study Hi all. I am new to this group. I may be offered the chance to participate in a blind research study comparing the distal RNY to the DS. It would require that I agree to an open procedure, but also that I would agree to having a card drawn during the procedure to determine whether I would wake up with the RNY or the DS. I am wondering what some of you think about this type of uncertainty. Any constructive comments are welcome. Thanks! Hi The quality of life issues post surgery are what made me opt for the DS in the first place over the RNY-- and there are differences! The loss of the pyloric valve in most versions of the RNY make unlikely that you could be revised into the DS after the study-- I would ask about what provisions they are making for revisions after the study-- maybe they are thinking that most patients with the sleeve gastrectomy will be wanting to have the rest of their stomachs removed and converted into the RNY, but that is not what I have been hearing on the lists-- it's the RNY's that are getting converted into DS, if they can resurrect their pyloric valves. Basically, my gut response is: NOT IN A THOUSAND YEARS! I wouldn't agree to have the RNY under any circumstances! <Shudder> Nan E.
