Guest guest
Hi Liz, welcome to the group! You will be surprised at how well children adapt to casts and braces. Before long will be zooming around as if nothing. How old was when she was diagnosed? Did you notice anything different about her feet(foot) at birth? Does it involve the whole foot or just part of the foot? Where are you located and who is 's doctor (orthopaedic)? Good to have you here! Fire away with any questions that you have. Guest guest
Liz, Dr. Dobbs in St. Louis has developed a brace that is still connected by the bar but it is hinged on either side near the shoe. This gives the babies better flexibility and more mobility, they can actually move their legs independently. My son is not yet walking, he just started pulling up to stand but I am confident that once he learns to walk w/out the brace that he will quickly transition to being able to walk with it as well. He started crawling a little over a week ago and has not been hindered at all by the bar. The bar is very important in maintaining the corrected position of the feet, if there is no bar then no corrective shoe or ankle foot orthotic (AFO) will keep the foot from relapsing. Hope this helps. If you would like more info about the Dobbs brace you can email me at jagrindon@... or Dr. Dobbs directly at mattdobbs@... > > > Anybody out there start late? was not diagnosed at birth but we > > > started treatments at one year.
