Guest guest
Marcy- I remember my son coming home with his first set of casts-I was unable to attend the appointment as I was recovering from a c- section. I know and feel(as well as all other moms/dads out there) what you are going through. Keep your questions coming-if you need anything-do not hesitate to ask! With regards to leaking of the diapers-my son had an exploding bowel movement that leaked-we just did our best to clean it up and to keep it clean. With regards to the chafing-his skin is so new-it probably isn't use to the casts-and the plaster may be rubbing. I used johnsons baby lotion on his upper legs to help this. Also when you get your cast changed-ask Dr H to put extra padding up at the top of his leg so that it wont rub so much. The dampness is not too surprising. Just keep an eye on your son's toes to make sure they are nice and pink(healthy). The cast should/will dry up. Again Congratulations! Hang in there! and keep the questions coming! Guest guest
We had tons of problems with leaky diapers, some messier than others. We got rolls of cotton to put around the top of the casts to help, and when that got wet or dirty, we'd just pull off the cotton and put on new stuff. This was almost a nightly ritual the first night of the new casts. Aleksander seemed to show his dissatisfactiong every time by pooping all over them right after we got the new ones put on him. We even had to go back to have new casts put on once because he pooped down the cast. We got the cotton directly from the clinic, but I'm sure they'd have something in the first aid aisle at the store. Another idea the cast techs told us about was to take an old pair of socks and cut off the ribbing at the top and put that around the top of the casts. I figured my husband's old socks would work well. Worth a shot anyway! > > Many thanks to everyone who responded to my post > > regarding doctors in the DC area. Guest guest
My doctors office gave us some stretchy cushiony tape that we wrapped around the top of the cast, it stuck to his leg but not *sticky* so it didn't hurt when we pulled it off. We just removed it whenever it got messy. You should ask Dr. H if they have something like this, it was wonderful! > > > Many thanks to everyone who responded to my post > > > regarding doctors in the DC area. Guest guest
We used my foldover ankle socks on Lily's casts. Worked like a champ in keeping them " clean.
