Vomiting/dehydration (When to go for IV fluids)

If anyone could respond quickly on this I would appreciate it. Asenath

has been vomiting since about 6:30 AM quite a bit. She isn't holding

liquids down and has been sleeping all day. Her face looks slimmer (this is

major as steroids cause major swelling of the face!). We were scheduled to

go to Mayo tomorrow afternoon for overnight IV fluids for her MRI/MRA which

is Monday, but now we are wondering if it might be smart to go tonight and

get the IV's going. I have Pedialite going in through her G-tube presently

but wonder if keeping her home is risky as she so easily has strokes. She

vomited one time for the past two days and had 4 liquidy bm's as well. I

know this isn't the flu as she had the flu shot about 2-3 weeks ago so I am

worried it may be her cyclic vomiting getting worse. Any advice? For those

who deal with cyclic vomiting, how soon do you go in for IV fluids?

Darla,

Sounds like you need to take her sooner than later. With Grace we take her at the first sign the vomiting, fever or diareah is going to continue for more than a few hours. We always try to get her there before she shows any signs of dehydration, because once she starts to look dehydrated it is too late. It usually makes it much easier on her too. If we can get there while she is still hydrated the IV's go in much easier and she can cope with more. Best wishes, I hope she feels better soon.

Darla,

The flu shot is not for GI issues. It just prevents the upper respiratory viruses. Hopefully you were able to wait to bring her in and that things are resolving. I know it is not easy to travel with a sick child. LoriannDarla Klein wrote:
