Re: which carseat with the DBB?

Hi Reid, When our son was in the DBB (which was 4 1/2 years ago), we

had no problem with the Century SmartMove carseat, the plain one,

not the one that has the bar that comes down and sits across the

baby's lap. The SmartMove is good because it works both rear-facing

for infants and then forward-facing for older babies, and it is also

adjustable in that it can have the baby more laying down (for

infants without strong neck muscles) or more sitting up (again, for

older children). The problem we ran into with the DBB -- our son

started with it when he was 2 1/2 months old -- was that, after he

grew just a little taller, because the shoes and the DBB added a few

inches to his overall length, the bottom of the DBB began pressing

up against the back of the backseat when he was in the carseat

facing backwards. At that age, we were supposed to have the carseat

facing backward, but because of the DBB we had to face the carseat

forward so that his legs would have more room; otherwise, his feet

were getting pushed up by the backseat, forcing him to bend his

knees, which the doc said was not good. We were nervous about

turning him to face forward before the recommended age, but luckily

we had no problem. If you find that the shoes or bar are resting on

the sides of the carseat and holding the baby's legs up, you can put

a rolled-up towel under the baby's knees for some support. (This is

why you can't have a carseat with that bar that goes across the

baby's lap; it won't lock into place if you put anything under the

baby's knees.) The rolled-up towel is also really helpful in the

crib; take a look at my DBB hints in the " Files " section of this

site. Also, keep in mind that with the DBB on, facing forward in the

carseat, the baby will need some extra room so you may not be able

to put the front car seats all the way back for more legroom for the

driver and front passenger. One of our cars is pretty small and

there was very little clearance for the DBB. Hope this is helpful.
