Guest guest
Miralax works in a different way than psyllium. Miralax works by pulling water from the GI tract and adding it to stool. If you have hydration issues, you should be very careful. You are supposed to use 8 oz of water with Miralax or you can get dehydrated. Our has never done this. She takes it in about an oz of water. But she is also on lasix--so pulling water out is not a bad thing for her. Psyllium is a bulk forming laxitive that stimulates peristalsis. If you have poor peristalsis, psyllium can be OK. The problems is that people often over-use psyllium and then need it in order to go to the bathroom. Miralax does not have the peristalsis-stimulating effects of psyllium. Psyllium can be used for both constipation and diarrhea.
