Guest guest
As most of you know, I attended my 40th high school reunion. That's right, I graduated in 1967. But before you start counting on your fingers, I was a child prodigy who actually started school at 15 months, & started h.s. at 4-1/2 years old. Ha! Anyway, my entire town had just over 2000 people in it. There were 77 in my graduating class. Some of these kids I knew from first grade. I attended first grade there, then moved to Tucson for 4 years & returned to Indiana for 6th grade on. We had a nice turnout; one couple came from New Mexico & another from Florida. This was the first reunion for one member of the class, and I'm so glad he came. In h.s. I rarely talked to him. We didn't have anything in common. I knew that he was a heavy drinker, but a lot of kids were then. Later I heard that he had continued drinking heavily & had severe alchohol-related health problems. A few months ago he had a stroke. I would have never recognized him without the name tag, but I was so happy to see him. I can't really explain why, since we weren't friends in h.s. It just seems like in a small town like that, it's easy to feel a bond. He couldn't really carry on a conversation with anyone, but it was obvious how happy he was at all the hugs & greetings from everybody. I wasn't a member of the "In crowd," but I enjoyed h.s. & had several good friends. By 20 years after graduation, the lines had really blurred & I became friends with classmates that I never really hung out with all those years ago. Anyway, I'll write more later, but I did want to send a photo. These two ladies and I were good friends back then, and even though we don't really get together now, we chattered like magpies at the picnic! I am really glad that I attended a small school.
