Guest guest
Sharon. I do have a scooter but I want the hauler for me. I want to take off by myself so I need some way to put the chair in the car. I couldn't lift it by myself and put me in the car too. I know about the ramps, I have them for when I go to my moms house up the steps. I also know about the scooter hauler on the back of the truck. I have a Buick Century and I need either a chair that comes apart and is light or the lift. That lift was quite fascinating the way it hauled it up to the top of the car and then closed the lid on it. It kept it away from the car and all. why would you be worried about that type of hauler? Just curious. Tell me more I do listen and take advise real well. Thanks Jackie Car AccidentCan't remember if I mentioned that our car was totaled on Sept.25th.The car was totaled and with it went my scooter lift. My scooter is in the scooter hospital. We were able to purchase another car which is a 2004 Ford Freestar limited. Of course the insurance com[pany payment was no where what the car cost.We are now looking for a scooter lift. We met someone at the conference that is in a electric wheel chair. They have a ramp that you drive the chair up into the car. The ramp folds in 4. That is a less expensive option but I really would rather have a lift I could handle myself. But that would be about 2500 to 3000 dollars, I applyed for a zero persent credit card that would stay at zero% until Octoober of 2008.Now the dilema to pay less for the ramps or to get thenice ramps which run about $2500.00. Anyone with experience with the ramps or anyone wanting to vote on which one they think should get. I need some help with this decision.Judy in PAJudy in PA~~~~ *** ~~~ *** ~~~ *** ~~~~The Neurosarcoidosis CommunityNS CHAT:- FAITH CHAT: SUNDAY 4PM-5PM EASTERN TIME CHATROOM LINK: http://www.emxpc. net/chat/ index.php Message Archives:-http://groups. yahoo.com/ group/Neurosarco idosis/messagesMembers Database:-Listings of locations, phone numbers, and instant messengers.http://groups. yahoo.com/ group/Neurosarco idosis/database
Guest guest
Take apart scooters or chairs are heavier that what you think. The base is the heaviest because it contains the batteries. Oh you can take the batteries out and then them into the trunk of the car. You have to learn how to pull the proper pins, screwdrivers and such. TV makes things look easy, but there is always the down side and that is WEIGHT LIMIT.. Weight limit is the biggest drawback of these type of scooters and power chair.Pride makes a power chair that comes apart and the weight limit is something like 150 pounds. Sharon L. Guest guest
I have a scooter I bought used in February. I can take it apart & get it in my trunk in about 5 min. The tiller w/basket comes off, the seat pulls straight up & off & the fiberglass cover over the batteries lifts off. The two batteries unhook easily. The base of the scooter is too heavy for me to lift into the trunk, so I made my own folding ramp out of two boards with hinges. I roll the scooter up my little ramp & into the trunk. I don't have a very big trunk, so I can't get much else in there besides the scooter. I don't know what the official weight limit is, but I'm just over 200# and the only problem is speed. It's fine in a hospital where I don't want to go too fast, but at the State Fair there were times I wished it went faster. My grandkids like to ride it around the driveway, and it goes pretty fast with them! It's not ideal, but at least for now it's allowed me to go places & do things I couldn't do otherwise.
