Guest guest
Bev, welcome to the group. I'm glad that your surgeries went so well. The situation is often different for folks with sarcoidosis or other diseases requiring immune suppression. There is not only a higher risk of infection, but for those who have been on long-term steroids (Prednisone, etc.), the bone loss also increases the risk of complications. This effect can persist for years after the steroids have been discontinued. Some will do fine; others can endure a very stormy recovery. It usually comes down to the same decision-making process that we learn to expect in dealing with the sarc monster: which is worse, the disease or the treatment?!? That choice will be different for each of us. In people without these issues, joint replacement can be miraculous. I've known several people who have been thrilled with the results. Thanks for your encouraging spirit! Ramblin' RoseModerator A merry heart is good medicine. I am totally pain free. The short term pain from the operations was nothing compared to what suffering i entailed. Dont hesitate, its wonderful. and now the operations are so much better than when i had mine done, and the recuperation time is much faster. good luck . Hope you all feel much better soon. Bev God~Bless Re: [sPAM] arthritis Hi Jackie, thanks for the email. Sorry to hear you have the same thing. I did ask about cortisone shots and the Dr said, that would be putting more steroids in my bones so it would not be good to do. Are the shots you taking steroids? I do not want an ankle or knee replacement either. The Dr. said in my condition he did not want to do one, until I cannot walk at all. Also that you for keeping me in you prayers.Love to ya,In a message dated 10/18/2007 10:08:22 PM Eastern Daylight Time, shadowme (AT) mchsi (DOT) com writes: Hi there. I have arthritis in both knees. I have shots of synvis ( think that is how you spell it.) You get 3 shots in each knee in weekly intervals. Then you are good for about a year. I also have bone on bone and am trying real hard not to have the knee replacement. This is the 3rd time I have gotten the shots and it works wonderful. My Dr. said you can use the shots in most joints. They have lasted me about 1 year each time. I too take pred. but had the shots before I got NS. And you are right you can't live without the stuff and it does mess a lot up. My knees were already shot but I got the sugar thing, pumpkin face and terrible discolored hands. The sugar thing is gone as is the pumpkin face but the hands are still discolored. I can handle that. Anyway I recommend the shots if you can get them. I am quite happy with the results I get.I hope it all works out for you and you are in my prayers. I know how it hurts to have bone on bone. Oh and the shots don't hurt. just pressure.Jackie from WI [sPAM] arthritisHi just checking in to see if anyone has a problems with arthritis in knees, hips and ankles.
