Thanks for that - very good site. We had figured that 20 was about

right!!!!!! Next question, with the gold bar we had to bend the bar 10-15

degrees for dorsiflexion, The red bar has 2 bends but then the level out, do

we have to bend the red bar aswell????

Rach,

I don't know if this will help you or not, there is a picture of this

in the tips and tricks document, not sure if it is super clear but it

may help??? Try here

If the link does not work, it is in the files section under the folder

called " bracing file " , file name is something like FAB tips

10_1_2005.pdf I have never seen a red bar personally but from what I

understand it depends on which way the sole plates are on the shoes.

In some cases the 20 degree mark would actually be the correct mark -

the way Naomi explained it to me was 90-70=20, kwim? I dunno, since I

don't have a red bar I am just guessing. Okay, I'll just quit now,

since I obviously don't know what I'm talking about, lol!

Rach,

We've had a gold bar, but have recently switched to the red adjustable. The

sole plates on the gold have angle markings all the way around--as well as

clearly marking the 70 degree mark on the newer ones--which makes it pretty

straightforward as far as setting it up. With the red bar, the markings (at

least so far as the ones I've seen) only go part-way around. They are set up so

that you either have the markings between the shoe and the bar where you can't

really see them or you have them out in front where to set them at 70 degrees

you have to either pay no attention to the markings or realize that 70 degrees

is the same thing as 20 degrees... I'm not sure why they don't have the

markings all the way around.

In any case, it sounds like you have figured this out already.

Do you mean that the middle part of your red bar is flat? This is the way it is

supposed to be (and it's mich more stable for standing on, if Connor is into

that kind of thing). The bends at the end are a little steep (more than 20

degrees) to lift the shoes off the floor, then there is another slight bend that

decreases the dorsiflexion to 10-15 degrees. If you set the bar on a flat

surface, you'll be able to tell that the shoes are indeed dorsiflexed. I was

concerned about tis at first too because it really does look like that 2nd bend

just sets them back to level.

OK, hope this helps some.

Hi Rach! :)

Alister had the red bar as well, I assume it's the

same type you've now got (since we're seeing the same

doctor). I know what you mean about the double bend

since ours is the same. It does end up flat so I

guess it really ought to be bend at both ends, or

rather it should not have been bent back to being flat

again.

As for the 70 degrees, the '70' mark (I mean the dash

between '60' and '80' since '70' isn't actually

marked), should point forward, ie at a right angle to

the bar. Hmm, that probably isn't very clear...

Maybe a better way to explain is this, start by

setting the feet pointing straight forward, parallel

to each other, then you see where the '0' mark ends

up. Then bend them outwards until the '70' mark is in

the same place. I hope that makes more sense... :)

Take care,
