Has anyone tried a change in their diet with good results

Kat,

I've been working with the Swarzbein Principal Balanced diet, along with SUPERFOODS RX and by eliminating refined sugars, cuttiing back on red meat, and doing more fruits and veges- rather than the quick fix meals-- I've been able to get a tremendous amount of my inflamation down.

I still crave dairy-- but when I get into the icecream and cheeses, then I do end up with more joint pain.

The dairy issue is that the Lactose creates more Lactic Acid and that likes joints. You get a build-up in your joints, and you have pain.

I'm sure you've read the stuff I've beat upon-- HYDRATION IS YOUR FRIEND! High blood sugars create more neuropathy, as does a diet low in B vitamins. From what I've been reading and working with (I have a DC that has a secondary speciality in nutrition) it is beginning to appear that at least for me, if my calcium/magnesium ration is low on either one-- then the muscle pain is increased. Calcium relaxes muscles, but without the right amount of magnesium, it can't be assimilated, and we're screwed.

Our body seems to be thinking that we need more calcium, so it holds it in places it doesn't belong. (The "starvation" issue.) Same with water, if you don't keep well hydrated, when you do get some fluids down, they race to your hands and feet, and want to stay there-- because your body thinks it's not going to get enough later, and will need to "store" the fluid.

Our joints require synovial fluid to be protected, and if you don't have enough fluids going in-- it's one of the places that the body can take from-- so either the cartlidge floats, or it rubs against bone, wearing it down, and we get the bone spurs, or in our case-- granulomas, and it raises it's ugly head as more pain.

Vitamin C is a natural anti-inflammatory, Vit E releases the oxygen in your bloodstream, Vit B is needed for mood and is now linked to Parkinsons-- if you don't get enough long-term-- you develop those wonderful twitches, or restless leg syndrome.

BTW, Vit B defiency is a real problem for us, ALL the immunosupressants wipe out B's.

The SUPERFOODS RX book is one of the absolute best to explain what vitamins do what-- and what to supplement. If you are on prednisone-- your calcium is being wiped out. We don't process it correctly, (seems to be theme with new studies going on) as well as Vit C-- and Vit D. D can't be processed without calcium, and sunlight. iT TAKES sunlight to get our body to absorb Vit D. Even a few minutes outside each day (even if it's storming-- it's the "rays" that do the work) will make a huge difference.

To me it makes so much sense-- if you don't have enough of the vitamins and minerals-- and since our foods are now mostly processed- which kills whatever nutrition was in the food-- and since our soil is only re-enhanced with basically 3 minerals-- the farm land is now deplete of minerals and nutrients-- so there wasn't much in the food to begin with-- add heat from cooking, add sugars and high fructose corn syrup, add preservatives, add the anti-biotics that is in the feed for the livestock, and you've got a diet that is crap-- and you've not eaten anything.

I know it's hard for most of us to buy Organic from Health Food Stores-- but it will pay off. Get those toxins out of your body. You will think more clearly, be in less pain, and have more energy. Skip the middle isles of the grocery stores, and go for the edges-- the produce, the meat and chicken and fish, and good dairy-- the lowfat milk, cottage cheese, yoghurt with live cultures.

Eliminate the caffeine-- go for real fruit juices, green tea (STAY AWAY FROM THE GREEN TEA CAPSULES--THEY CAUSE TUMOR GROWTH) and water. You will be amazed if you try this for 2 weeks== you will see improvement! Use honey for sweetening if you need to.

There is a huge connection-- huge- between diet and pain! I'm getting to be a convert-- and I am adament about it because it has helped me tremendously.

Take care,

Thanks Tracie.

You are absolutely right about the water and sugar and other information. I started with a Life Transformation Coach and that was the first thing. I am putting lemon slices in it but before I get out of bed I have to have 2 to 3 glasses of water and I have to drink the amount we set upon during the day and believe it or not I started to improve within 2 days. I also incorporated deep connected breathing in the morning before getting out of bed and at night time. I am allergic to the cow protein but over the years I was able to start incorporating it back into my diet. But I admit before this last attack I was eating ice cream every day. I know now I have to stay away from it as it is addictive. And, I admit, I am so much better pain wise.

My neurologist has me on a vitamin regimen. I know that the calcium magnesium pill helps me. I take it before I go to bed and it helps alot. I am on the IV prednisone and reducing. I was on 1000 mg monthly but now they reduced me to 500 and we are going to attempt 5 week intervals and reducing again from 11 to 10 mg and see how I do.

I am going to really start trying to reduce all the processed foods as I know I did for a few days and what a difference as I am either sensitive to the foodstuffs or like you said I get the lactic acid buildup and it creates so much pain EVERYWHERE as you all know.

Thanks again Tracie for your email.

Hugs,
