Has Anyone Had the FEDERAL EMPLOYEES Program Insurance Paid for their BPD/DS?

Dear Group,

I have never posted at this group before, so please bear with me if

this question had been asked / answered previously.

I have the Federal Employees Program of BC/BS. When my surgeon's

office sent in my insurance info last week, they were told (over the

phone) that BC/BS no longer does preapproves for surgery. They said

just to go ahead and have the surgery, and they would decide

afterwards whether to pay for it or not.

Meanwhile, my surgeon's office wants me to sign a promisory note

before surgery, stating that I will be financially responsible for

the entire bill AND PAY THE ENTIRE AMOUNT IMMEDIATELY UPON DENIAL,

afterwards. Well......this is a lot of money ($25-50K which I don't

readily have). I have called my insurance company and they say the

procedure is covered - but they refuse to put it in writing. My

surgeon's office says BC/BS has never paid for a BPD/DS. What is a

girl to do????

Anyway, has anyone out there had (or know of someone who has had) the

BPD/DS paid for by BC/BS?? If there are already replies at this

site, please steer me to those #'s.
