Guest guest
Hi - Well, I've had a farily lenghty experience with Xenical. There's the good, the bad, and the ugly. Yes, it has all of those side effects that they describe euphemistically on tv. They run from growling to aching to loose stools (that come on like a flash!) to a yellow, oily discharge. Now, that is the bad. The good is the weight loss. The symptoms mostly relate to overeating fats. Xenical can't really be used without limiting them. First, it prevents absorbtion of only some of the fat that you eat and if you're going to lose weight, you have to limit fats. Secondly, overeating fats is what initially causes the severe problems. After a while - maybe about 6 months, the fat begins to mix better in your intestines and the problems subside or disappear altogether as your system gets used to the medication. I notice that if I take an antibiotic, though, that the yellow oily discharge returns. I'd bet that the DS is about the same because I have talked to so many post ops who don't make any effort to limit their fat intake but the Xenical-like symptoms have long ago disappeared.
